Not eligible for benefits

I applied for benefits last year, because the cost of heating this place was so high that I was in serious trouble.  They told me that my girl was not eligible because she gets a state check for adoption assistance from RI. I get that, but it amounts to $95 per week, and was the only income that I had at the time. I thought that I would be able to have my craft shop when I got up here, but it has been one nightmare after another; one delay after another; on disaster after another. I spent the first year I was here trying to set up the shop, which needed repairs, and going through the process of getting my grandaughter. I plastered, painted, built shelves, arranged things, and worked around the acre trying to get it cleared so that we could have a garden and grow our own food. I spent the second year, mainly, trying to get the girl's behavior under control. Countless meetings with counselors, school personnel, doctors, etc., as well as social workers. I also made a sign for the shop, filed with the town the necessary paperwork and paid the fees so that my shop could open for business. In the spring, I opened the shop only to get more visits from the tax assessor than customers. For 3 months I opened the shop every day. I advertised sales, which cost me more than I took in during them.  I've done it wrong. I know that now. For one thing, I don't have enough stock for a proper store. I'm an amature trying to go professional. For another thing, there is nothing salable that I can make enough of by myself to support myself. Candles would do that, but there is almost no market up here - in RI I could have had them eating out of my hands! In order to succeed, I need to find suppliers to stock the store, find an advertising method that will actually work, and gain some repeat customers. When people around here, who are generally quite poor, can get 3 votive candles at Walmart for $1, why would they pay $1 each for mine just because they are infinately better than the ones at Walmart? Well, the list goes on regarding what I would need to do to succeed with the plan, but the bottom line is that I am an amature.
