Not a magical pregnancy unicorn

I rarely write journal entries but I just thought I would make this one short and sweet.  I'm finishing up  my first trimester this week and I would like to say that I am officially NOT a magical pregnancy unicorn.  I feel like Elizabeth Banks in What to Expect sometimes.  I wish I could say its all rainbows and sunshine but I have vomited up my nose soooo many times, vomited so violently that I have peed myself - thankfully I was wearing a dress and just went commando until I could get home and in the shower to cry about how awful morning sickness is.  I have a tilted uterus and until it flips in a couple weeks my constipation has risen to a new level of ridiculousness because my baby is basically compressing my bowl, and if I'm not constipated I have the shits.  I am so happy to be pregnant finally, and naturally, and that the baby is healthy and growing well and I'm not high risk, but I now totally understand my friends who felt this was a means to an end.  I hope to like the next two trimesters much better, but I will probably end up being that person with pregnancy acne, extremely smelly uncontrollable farts, spontaneous peeing and back labor.
Also, apparently being pregnant means that everyone who hasn't recently been pregnant, or has never been pregnant - aka my husband and my mom (i'm adopted) - feel they have the right to second guess my every decision and ask me if I'm sure that whatever I'm doing/feeling/eating is ok for the baby though they have never themselves bothered to consult an OB, the internet, open a book.
Just needed to rant.

Did I know you were from Durham?!? How did I miss that? I live in Raleigh!

Anyways, the vomiting and Nausea do get better around week 12-14 for most people. For me it was like someone flipped a switch and one day I did not want to vomit from the time I woke up to the time I went to bed. The second trimester is much more enjoyable because you are not sick all the time and your energy levels do come back.

For the constipation, try switching to a prenatal that also contains a probiotic. I am on Rainbow Light (from target) and since I started taking it I have only had 2 rounds of constipation that I can get under control within a week.

Hang in there, things will start looking up!

Thanks for the pep talk, I had one week of blissful normalcy last week but this week I\'ve regressed. Where are you in Raleigh? Maybe we should have coffee sometime? I work in Cary so I\'m not very far away most days.

I work in Cary too! By the Automall on 64. I actually live between Garner and Fuquay, but have a Raleigh address. We should do coffee or lunch sometime!

lol! I work right where 64 becomes Tryon rd. on Crescent Green Dr. I pass that auto mall every day since I come in on the toll rd. My email is jhesterm@gmail.com, if you send me an email we can figure out meeting up!

I\'m beginning that stage too. The nausea is good because it keeps me calm (I must still be pregnant, right?) But urgh... the car/shower makes me feel horrible. I barfed last night and some splashed up and hit me in the face. That was super fun. Sometimes I\'m not sure if I peed myself or if it\'s the Crinone. I like to think it\'s Crinone. I still keep thinking this is all good because it calms me between appointments and makes it feel real, but I\'m only 7w4d, so I\'m sure it\'s just gearing up.

Hang in there! You should feel better soon!

oooh Good luck MRSstrong! That\'s exciting that you conceived! I hope everything goes well. I totally understand the splashing issue, though I usually splash on my shoes, I try to keep my face well away from it.

Thanks! Oh sorry, you have splashing issues too, but glad I\'m not alone!

Pregnancy is not romantic and is not easy. But so worth it in the end and I think having a few awful memories from your pregnancy is good in the long run because it really prepares you for parenthood. I hope you start to feel better soon. I know I really turned a corner about 2 weeks into my 2nd trimester! Things started to get better and easier (at least a little). I really tried to see the bright side of things my entire pregnancy, because I had been waiting so long for this so called blissful 9 months. But there were days it was hard. However I strongly believe those moments made me a more resilient person and a better parent today! If I can survive throwing up in my purse on a bus while pregnant (not morning sickness, just motion sickness, which I never had before pregnancy) then I can survive anything. When my 18 month old poops in the bathtub I just deal with it and carry on! 2 or 3 years ago cleaning shit out of my tub would have made me gag, but not seems like not such a big deal.

Bell that puking in your purse sounds awful! I have to say, after having 2 dogs that cleaning up shit doesn\'t phase me. I\'ve had to get it out of carpet, and once you\'ve done that a tub is easy. The vomit is what scares me more because I\'m a sympathetic puker and I\'ve had problems babysitting sick kids before because just seeing them puke makes me do it too. Lets just say that DH is on vomit duty for sick kids. I don\'t mind taking the poo.

This made me LOL!. I just watched that movie last week and loved it. I too am having some awful nausea and kicking heartburn. I keep saying \"I am not complaining\". I feel guilty even for thinking about being a wuss about it because we worked so hard to get here. But I do feel really shitty. I don\'t think I\'m glowing...and if I am it\'s because I\'m paler than normal because of nausea.

lol! lilcmhos I feel you on the not glowing part. I think I just look haggard. Upside, I haven\'t gained any weight yet. And I hear you on the \"not complaining\" thing too. I feel like I should just be so grateful, which I am, because it took so long to get here, and I\'m so grateful that the baby is healthy. BUT. I never had a problem with anyone else complaining about their pregnancy so I think I should get to complain about mine. No one says it\'s a piece of cake, but also no one can really prepare you for how hard it is either.
Also, I decided to start a pregnancy blog last night so I can rant about everything and keep a kind of log of everything. Its www.pregnancyunicorn.weebly.com. I find it has been fun so far (24 hrs in). I totally recommend it.

I felt that way too. I said the glowing thing was a myth, the only way i might appear glowing was if my face was glistening from puke splatter, or extra make up covering the acne. As uncomfortable and awful as it can be, it is miraculously one of those things that you feel was no big deal AFTER the fact. The trick is you have to have the baby before you look back and think \"eh it really wasn\'t THAT bad.\" I hope you feel better.

Yeah, if we ever really remembered how crappy it can be, no one would have more than one kid ever.

I totally identified with Elizabeth on What to Expect. Yes, it\'s something we\'ve wanted for so long, but that doesn\'t automatically make it easy. My husband keeps telling me \"you wanted this\". I finally said to him that yes, I wanted this. But that doesn\'t mean it\'s not hard. My older sister came to my defense at one point and said to everyone in the room \"You know, it is possible to be extremely grateful AND miserable at the same time.\" That has become my mantra. Yes, I\'m beyond grateful and no, I wouldn\'t trade it. But, honestly, I went through hell to get here - doesn\'t it seem fair that I should be the one to get the easy pregnancy?!
