New Year//reading 17th summer & Lies my teacher told me//roly is missing
have started re-reading 17th summer, which i haven't read since 8th grade. its written in 1942 and won awards because the writer was an 18 year old and its rare for someone that young to be able to write like that. the entire book is about her first date and first boyfriend from that summer, and spans june, july and august. its a hoot because of the way a teenager THINKS at that age. wish the book had a glossary for the slang though, have no idea what many of the expressions from 1942 MEAN. lol.
am also reading, "lies my teacher told me" which is excellent. national best seller - 1995. it compares 12 usa public elementary school and high school history books to see if ANY OF THE BOOKS are honest in what they are teaching children. they aren't.
its alllllll bulshit. most of the stuff they "blame" on other countries or indians were actually done by our own country and our own people. the stuff written about columbus is even more ridiculous, they claim columbus was worse than hitler and hitler actually mirrored his holocaust to slaughter europe using usa's killing and concentration camps of 100 million indians as a model. wth? the book is a real eye opener. can't put it down and will write to washington to get rid of columbus day as a holiday. if we celebrate columbus we should also celebrate satan and hitler's birthday. seriously. that is how bad columbus is.
no one made collard greens or black eyed peas. even though i have black eyed peas sitting here. we had lobster tails. yum. even though i am trying to avoid lobster and alllll thinking animals nowadays. mashed turnip and stewed tomatoes yesterday. had spring rolls and duck sauce today. nothing traditional. i'm not very traditional anyway. hoping to at least have salad.
k made beef stroganoff again, he did this last year too. yum. i think it ended up the same way, i got to try it later because i was sick. lol. which is what will happen this year. we had fireworks here but i didn't bother going out on the deck to watch them. so, i'm that sick. never opened the cold duck at all (though would love to). at the moment he is dog sitting for me, because i'm afraid i'll get the kittens sick if i go over there. roly in particular, then discovered when i went over to the house finally, that roly got out THURSDAY and was seen in the neighbor's yard and still missing. grrrrrr. still have neighbor's to contact about this.
its drizzling rain but pretty warm outside, around 60 and its night. i'm grumpy because i'm sick and i know that is why. was hoping the rain would stop so i could go to the marina. nice that we didn't decorate much, so at least that headache isn't weighing on me.
