Looks like this has been a false alarm. My insurance had cancelled its coverage for Pradaxa and would provide prior authorization. For the record I had been taking it almost since when the FDA approved its use for A-fib patients but was with a different Medicare Part D insurance company. I was afraid that I was going to have to take Coumadin. But as it turns out my cardiologist was able to obtain prior authorization for Xarelto which I will start taking in a few weeks after my Pradaxa supply runs out.
I had a good experience with Pradaxa. Minor cuts took only a little bit longer stop bleeding. Here\'s hoping it will be the same or even better with Xarelto.
Just for the record, I have a pacemaker to keep my pulse above 60 bp (i take some meds to keep my heart rate from getting wild and crazy on the high side). January 25th will be my second anniversary. My experience with it has been ok with occasionally having a discomfort in my neck and of course deal with having a bump the the diameter of a 50 piece. I am not limited as to what I can do physically at all by having it. The insertion procedure was a piece of cake for me. Going through airport security has not been a problem. I did have a security person at a football game ask me what a pacemaker was. Had only to be frisked once.
Maybe these comments will provide a little encouragement for a few.
Hi there, There are others who have been denied Pradaxa, but were able to get it with their Doctors help. He must say it is medically necessary for you to have it. You might put it on a thread, and see if anyone who is one there now knows how to do it. Some folks like Coumadin because of the cost of Pradaxa. It costs me 45 a month. I have been fine with Pradaxa.
Last year, I switched my Medicare Part D from Coventry First Health to AARP United HealtgCare. I\'m not totally sure of what happen, but AARP changed their formulary where Pradaxa required Prior Authorization. The doctor\'s efforts to obtain his failed. However he was succussful in getting it for Xarelto. At this point I\'m pleased with the change as long as I don\'t have sny issues.
If I were inclined to start a thread, how I do it?

I felt intimidate when I came here 3 yrs. ago....but, don\'t be. We all make crazy statements, misspell words, don\'t say it as we mean it. some folks go back and correct it in next link....there is no delete button here. I don\'t, I figure most of the folks don\'t read it carefully....we skim through. So, feel free to ask and say what is on your mind. Hopefully, there will be some one who has a tidbit of info that is helpful.
