new norm
T didn't come home but he's doing well (not using). He actually is down the street at his best friend's house. Said it got too late and fell asleep. Decided to let this thing go. I haven't been upset by this behavior but a bit bothered by it. Not worth it. If he were using that would be another issue.

And you are certain that his friend does not use? When my son gets off probation I will have to learn to let these types of things go ( to an extent, he\'s only 16), and it is difficult. The line is fuzzy between letting things go and having that gnawing feeling that something just isn\'t right. Hugs to you.
I know his friend abused drugs during the time that T did but he did not become dependent. I had excess to my son\'s instant messages awhile back when he was in the middle of this hell and read that this friend was trying to get him to stop or slow down. My son told him he couldn\'t . So even though his friend can still use and not feel the same consequences as my son would, I have to believe that he respects my son\'s position when my son is around. If he doesn\'t do that, I am amazed that my son resists it. Because as far as I can tell, he is clean. In fact, these boys are doing things they never did when they were using - interested in sports (big time), working out, watching movies, etc.
T is also 18 now. I\'ve seen some maturing. Baby steps. In addition, I have to pick my battles because the good now outweigh the bad.
you area a wise woman - knowing exactly where to step with your son.....but oh goodness, the worries will be there for a long time, wont they. YOu are doing soooo well with him - and sounds like he is doing well too....:) XXXXX
