New for Me Car

Well I hope I can finish this before I lose it! So I have gone “crazy” according to Dorothy and I am sure(but don't actually know)my kids feel the same way! Let's start at the beginning.
Last Tuesday I took my car in for a routine grease and oil(actually it was due last May but the mileage didn't occur until last Monday. So I take it to Toyota Certified of Santee. They don't sell new cars but have used ones on their front lot and do all maintenance in the back. I have had NO Problems with my car so I wasn't prepared when they started telling me I need new brakes, there was NO oil on the dip stick, etc. When they got to $1000 I said “Whoa!!” This car is 1995, you claim you can't replace the passenger door handle because there are no more parts made! I am going to be turning this car in very soon, I am not putting a lot of money in it.” I went outside to put myself back together after that shocking bit of news. Mainly they had a lot of Rav4's and Camry's, not interested because gas mileage is that good. Then I saw the Prius. I have been wanting one since 2009 when a friends husband got one. The EX of course got the color I always wanted Green, last March or April, but his is a 2008. This one was white. Yuck! I don't like white....or so I thought. It is 2010 with 35185 miles on it. It was a lease that was returned because the mileage was almost up. Only had one owner, the lease. The price was a little(okay a lot :)) out of my price range. I had saved up $15,000, from jobs I have worked the past 5 years and Bingo and slot machine winnings. The price was $18450. I looked at the time like I was a homeless person looking for a handout!! But I suddenly said “what the hell!” its only money and I can make up the difference!! So when a salesman finally asked if I had any questions, I let him tell all about the car and then when he didn't ask if I wanted it, I said “so what do I have to do take this car home today?” A long story short, it turns out my credit rating was/is 858 instead of the 720 I thought it was. The salesman was so shocked he agreed to install Bluetooth for free and took my car for down payment plus I paid nothing for any work they had already done! I decided since I have such a good rating I would go ahead and finance the car. My payments are $300 a month, from my side job I bring home $408 every month. I can just make the payment! Yeah! Of course I haven't been able to sign up for Obamacare yet, and will probably have to pay $176 a month for health insurance, but we will cross that bridge when it comes. Right now I have a fantastic car!! Finally! The X told me in 2008(before divorce or even thoughts of!)if I wanted a car I could have one if I saved the money for it...so I started. When he found out I had $500 saved he started in, “we have to have all the bills paid first” “you can't be stiffing the bills for your convenience” I tried to point out that was money I earned above and beyond his money and he got to buy a new car when ever he wanted. Then he split hairs on me and pointed out he bought used, not NEW cars. He was not frivolous, only I was! So I gave up all hope of ever having a “new for me” car. A year later I divorced him. One reason this car is so important to me, is I earned every single penny of it. Not one red cent came from his alimony or the money he paid me off with. THIS IS MINE! Not his! I know it is kinda silly, but I finally feel like I am doing something for me. He was not involved in any way. I did my homework, I knew for several years what kind of car I wanted and I had a price in my head as to what I would spend. I didn't get the best deal, but I didn't not in any way, shape or form get took!! This car will probably last me the rest of my driving life!!

I will make payments until such I time as I can't, then I will just pay it off from my savings. And if I can make all the payments I am ahead on my retirement savings by $15,000. This sounds like an astronomical amount of money, and it is. But I earned it. It was my blood, sweat and tears(and believe me there were a lot of all of it)that made that money. I hate my X that it has taken me so long to get past him and his put downs. Until I married him, I always made good money, saved good money and spent good money. Yet when I married him, it was(even then)my good credit rating that allowed him to buy out his old girlfriend from the house they bought together.(he could never qualify on his own, course I guess it was declaring bankruptcy to clear away his student loans that did it!)What a shmuck! Being that he is Jewish I am using the word correctly!!! He has never paid for anything in his life. But to hear him talk he has been on his own and had to financially take care of him self since he was 13. Let's see, I think his Mom&Dad were still paying his way, then he got a 4 year full scholarship to the college of his dreams, which he pissed away his junior year, only to return and find out he had to take Student loans for his last year. Boo Hoo! poor baby, one lousy year. But he never paid a dime of his loans because he claimed he couldn't get a job because his college Alma mater blacked balled him, so no one would ever(the emphasis is on EVER)give him a job as an engineer. So he had to move from New Jersey to Arizona and take a job at a car wash working with only undocumented aliens. Then he declared bankruptcy!!!!!! He couldn't qualify on his own to buy the house with his old girlfriend so she fronted him and they begged and cheated their way into a loan. Which of course he denies and says it was all her doing. The man is a menace to society and his own children. He is still telling(I don't really know, but because of somethings my son said in an email he did send me, I believe he must be)my son that he will never have to work at a minimum wage job, once he has a Master's degree. My son doesn't even have a driver's license, let alone ANY job experience. He has never worked a day in his life, not in High School, not summer's in College.NOTHING!!! But he is going to walk into a management position making over $50, 000 a year?? This is what the X is telling him!!! And my son wants so badly to believe him!! So of course I am the bad guy, because I am always asking him if he has gotten even a work/study job at school. HE DOESN'T NEED TOO! HIS DAD HAS ASSURED HIM, HE WILL START AT THE TOP!!! I hate to even think this but my son is being set up for a suicide attempt. He owes over $150,000 in student loans(his Dad wouldn't give him one red cent!! “No body ever helped me?!!”) My son won't be able to handle the shock of not getting a job and not being able to pay off even one month of his loans. He will implode....but it is not my fault. I can't fix any of it. But I will be here to try and stop the implosion and if I can't I will help pick up whatever pieces can be picked up. I love my son, always have, always will. But I can't help with this until it is a “fait au compli”. I just hope I can do it the right way for him. Meaning not enable him, but just support him. That is if my X will allow me close enough. Because he will be screaming it from the roof tops, “here is proof my X wife, mother of my son, ruined his life, because she is mentally ill and passed those bad genes onto HIS son.” What an ass...I know that real people will not believe it, but he can be very persuasive when he wants to be.
So I have digressed enough! I am excited and happy with my choice of “new for me” cars. I have all the warranties, bells and whistles that I wanted. I am content.

Sometimes you just have to go with the moment. You know the risk and went for the new for you car. I feel the same way about my truck. Dorothy will get over it and will probably love riding in your car. I am happy for you that you were able to do this.

I do understand and you have a plan to pay for this if an emergency happens. You\'ve worked hard to save this money and you traded for the same reason I traded my old truck. It was going to start costing me a lot of money and I live way out of town. I couldn\'t afford a breakdown at night on deserted roads. You did good.

You are so smart. You made out good on this one.

I feel bad for your kids. One day they will find out the hard way, Daddy doesn\'t know jack....either that or they will develop the \"Everything is someone else\'s fault\" mentality.

Way to go macgunderson! You rock!
