New Job

Dear DS Sisters,

I didn’t want to say anything until it was for sure, but I found a new job.  I feel like a jinxed myself so many times, by talking to soon about jobs I applied for.  This is one I am more suited for than any of the little jobs I have had over the past year.  It working as an assistant to a sales counselor for a new home builder, I do have a background in Real Estate.  It is probably more hours than I wanted to work, but I will deal with it cause the money is good.  It is 34 hours a week.  Almost full time, and also working weekends.  There is an hourly plus a bonus on all the houses I help him with, which will be all.  I may have to give up my SS, because I will be making more money than they allow you to make, which will be fine as long as I can make enough to equal what I would make taking SS and a part-time job if you get my drift.  I will be situated in a beautiful model home.  I will be working Weds and Thurs, by myself as these are his days off, then with him on Sat and Sun.  One draw back is that this area will be built out in a year.  Than then find you a new location to work.  Which will be fine as long as it is within a reasonable distance.  I will worry about that next year.

I will have to go through my closet to see what I have to wear.  All my “business professional” clothes are from B/C (before cancer) and from some years before that.  Aside from maybe not being so stylish they are all so tight on my due to the fact that I have gained twenty pounds since the end of chemo.  I may have to pick up a few things, like maybe a black skirt   I really need to lose weight.  I hate being this fat.  I am having a hard time controlling my appetite.

Physically I feel really good.  My last test results were very good.  I am now going every six months for my check ups, however I am never really complacent about my remission. I thank God every day and pray that it lasts a very long time. Last time she wanted me to go for a mammogram and a bone density test.  Mammogram came out fine and I just went yesterday for the bone density test.  I am not worried about that.  Next week I have an appointment with the GP.  I had a blood test last week for this event.  I am diabetic, plus I have a thyroid condition and I need my prescriptions renewed.

To all my sisters that are still struggling with this insidious disease, my heart goes out to you and I am hear for you for strength and support.   I love you all.

Love and hugs,

Anita

Hi Anita, Great news about the job! Are you still working at Kohls? If so, you could get a discount on clothes there, couldn\'t you? My weight has been all over the place since cancer and chemo and cancer and chemo again. It\'s pretty good right now - not too low or too high. I wouldn\'t worry about bone density, either. Both my parents had osteoporosis and that puts me at high risk but I do not have it - only osteopenia which means low average bone density. Actually I was in an osteporosis study when I developed abdominal swelling. I thought it might be from the study drug and went to the study doctor. He felt an abdominal mass and referred me on and the rest is history.

By the way, my new lunch box is a neat insulated one. It looks like a little workmen\' lunch box. Best wishes to you and I hope you continue on in good health. Also, go ahead an get yourself a nice outfit as a celebration! Much love, Janet

No Janet I will not be working at Kohl\'s anymore. With working 34 hours at Highland Homes I will not be able to work that many hours. I don\'t have a family history of osteo, but she thinks I have the body type. It is probably a good idea to get tested anyway. Thanks, for you comment Janet.

Thanks Rhoda. I think yesterday must have been my lucky day. Besides getting offered the job, when I opened yesterdays mail, there was an escrow refund from my mortgage company. It was such a surprise. It wasn\'t much, but enough to pay my electric bill which has been exorbitant this winter. It has been colder than usual here in the Houston area. Thank God for small favors. I am so pleased for you and hopeful that this will the job that gets you through.. without being too unpleasant.. The clothes thing is always an issue with jobs. I brought so many things that I haven\'t worn since I stopped working and probably never will again.. also, had a problem deciding how to dress without work dictating my wardrobe.. Then there\'s the fluctuating weight and it can all get quite expensive.. Perhaps you will lose weight with the new job.. apparently, some of us eat more when we are doing work that we don\'t enjoy.. it\'s a way of cheering ourselves up.. comfort eating.. I used to do a lot of that. I\'m trying to maintain the weight I am now. I have lost weight, through being ill, several times now and each time I put it on again quickly and I would really like to stay thinner this time.. So far I am managing.. and it definitely helps that I am happy these days..

Wishing all the best for you in the new job and all your endeavours.. For all your efforts you deserve so much.. Huge hugs and thanks for being such a wonderful friend.. xxxxxx

Thanks Inka. I have a few things I can squeeze into. I think you may be right. If I am happier maybe I won\'t snack as much as I do. Time will tell. I don\'t have money right now to buy too many new clothes, so I will make due. Love and hugs and thanks, Anita

Yes, Beth we do have Goodwill stores here, but the one that is closest to me is SAM. Spring Assistance Ministries. Same type of thing. I will have to go and check it out. Thanks for the idea.

My favorite pair of jeans come from the local Good Will - Liz Claiborne! I paid $8.99 for them, they retail at $149.00! :^)

I am so happy to hear you finally have a job that you are going to like. I will pray that it works out for you. I think most of us need to lose weight. I blame my weight on the steriods I get. Gotta blame it on something. Ha,
