New Day

It's a new day and I'm feeling hopeful.  The sun is shining and it looks to be beautiful all day long.  I'm driving over for my MTX injection.  I used to dread those days, just staying awake for the trip was hard (and I'm driving!).  But now that I'm "retired/disabled" I am not so fatigued. It is funny.  When I quit work, I hurt so much and was so sad.  I expected to feel better, well, maybe not instantly, but soon!  That just didn't happen.  I kept having flares.  I kept having pain.  I wondered why I bothered to quit, if I was going to continue with the pain/flare cycle.  But, slowly, ever so slowly, I am making progress.  It has been hard to see, but it is there.  I can tell in my fatigue levels.  I can tell in an increase in my ability to exercise.  I haven't had a prednisone increase for a flare in 4 months!  This is a big change. So upward and onward.  Small baby steps.  But still forward.

SKMac, I read this and wished that I could do the same. I have battled this pain and fatigue for so long, and now that I know what it is, and that it\'s not going to go away, all that I think about is quitting my job. When I feel okay, I get my hopes up really high, but the rest of the time that I\'m not okay (95%)I feel hopeless.

Good for you...I\'m really happy to hear about good stories...it keeps my hopes high!

Hey, Zeyda, I\'ve been there too. I guess that is why any day that has a bright spot is so sweet. I\'ve change my very goal oriented personality. Instead of looking at my paycheck (non-existent now!) what I own (pretty slim, by USA standards) and how I look (very much like a 56 year old woman with RA on prednisone!), I have new victories. I tell myself, I got out of bed today!!! Yahoo! Bring out the balloons. I made it to the pool! Sweet. I could cook supper tonight. Yes! It\'s party time!!!!! It\'s time for new goals and new feelings of success. WE are in this disease for the long haul, so we better reward ourselves along the way.

I am finding it harder and harder to work yet I have a son with challenges trying to get through college. I\'m trying to hang in there at least till he is through...which may be 3 or 4 more years! Orencia is letting me still work, but barely. This weekend we are going to Florida for a graduation. We are driving. It is a 14 hour drive down Thursday night. We have to come back Monday morning . My hubbie\'s family (his niece is the graduate) wants to go to Universal on Sunday but I plan to stay at the motel and veg, since I know that 28 hours in a car will be more than I can tolerate !My hubbies family is NOT being very understandng about this...but I do not care. I gotta take care of myself!!

That is so hard! I can\'t imagine being in a car for that long! Rest all you can. My Dr. told me to get out of the car at least every hour to walk around and it was better if I could do every 30 minutes. The problem with that is a 14 hour trip becomes even longer! But do try move around whenever you stop. And you are exactly right! Take care of yourself. This is the only body you have!!!!
