NEVER FORGET
Here is a poem I wrote for Memorial Day
As the years go by, our memory grows dim
But we must all promise to remember them
The soldiers that battled and fought on so brave
On a battlefield that could become their grave
On the land, the air and crossing the sea
They served us proudly, the he and the she
They fought for a freedom they valued so dear
They fought for their country, putting aside their fear
So many would die, yet the rest they fought on
Their bravery would be praised in poems and songs
Their loved ones at home, they worried and cried
They prayed for each soldier that lived and that died
When the war was over, some families sat alone
Not all of our soldiers got to come home
A chair at a table sat empty that day
A reminder, the price that a loved one had paid
Those that came home all carried the pain
Some missing a limb or walked with a cane
Some carried the pain so deep in their heart
But, as our brave soldiers, they did their part
So Monday, take a moment to think what they gave
We owe them our freedom in this home of the brave
To them and their families, please know that we care
You're forever in our minds and always in our prayers.
