never a dull moment

Middle son was sick over a week and a half ago - fever, aches and pains, sore throat, headache, sinus - you name it.  He was sick for a good few days.  He recovered enough to have scheduled minor surgery for a cyst on his back.  He was put on Vicodin from any pain from the surgery.  The other night he stayed at his friend's house.  The next day he came home and laid down on the couch for a nap.  Later he woke up in severe pain, but it wasn't his back.  It was his knee!  He was in agony!  Out of nowhere.  So I give him the Vicodin to help the pain.  He was still in pain so I suggested I take him to the emergency rm on Saturday.  He wanted to wait and husband jumped in and said "Let's wait".  So, we wait.  The next day (still taking the medication) he still was in great pain.  I take him to the emergency room.  4 hours later we don't know anything. Blood tests, fluid drainage, and x-rays and nothing.  The doctor (what a great guy) told us it doesn't look like a bacterial infection (due to the clear fluids he extracted) but it could be a viral infection.  My son was put on antibiotics anyway and more Vicodin.  Sigh.  Tomorrow I take him in to an ortho dr.  * On top of all this, he hasn't been able to sleep.  About 2 hours a night.  It's been like this since he first got sick.  And he's not going to be happy when he finds out that the only appointment available is scheduled on his first day at school.  Sigh.........  T-Man is a concern for me. Although he's been taking his guitar, working out, interested in watching pro sports, hanging out at his friend's house whose mom is home - I think he might be heading down the path again.  This is a tough one because of my hubby.  He is the master of denial and thinks I'm the master of worry.  Not a good combination.  Sometimes we balance each other out and find a happy medium.  Doesn't work in this case.  * Middle son thinks his younger brother may be doing pot but has no proof.  I haven't seen anything or smelled anything.  Never seen him under the influence, but that doesn't mean anything.  If and when we do, that is when it gets hairy.  I've been bugging my husband about this and he said we need to focus on middle son right now.  That's fine but I'll continue to be the squeaky wheel.
