Thank you all for this page that is already helping so much. Reading other people experiences makes me feel much less lonely with all this.
My son´s leg becomes red when he stands, and gets darker quickly, until he puts his stocking on. It doens´t swell or hurt.
Six months after his DVT, he uses his mediven 30-40 mm compression stockings every day, even in the hot spanish summer. We just spent a week at the beach and he didn´t go to swim, afraid that doing it without the stocking was not good for his leg and that taking off after swimming would be too difficult. Do you have any experience about this?

Hi Belen,
It is no fun to wear stockings at the beach! I\'m sorry your son could not enjoy that part of his vacation.
I also wore 30-40mm Mediven stockings to the beach one month after my DVT... I was afraid to swim for several days, and just sat on the beach feeling sad.
But then some evenings before dinner I took off my stockings and went swimming. I was fine afterward-- I was just very careful to put my legs up for the rest of the evening so they wouldn\'t swell. (For example, I put them up on a chair during dinner.)
However, this is just my experience... your son\'s DVT sounds a bit more serious than mine was. Does his doctor say it is ok to take them off for a little while?
