My walking friend :)

Although I'm really tired, I managed to go for a walk this evening, and I'm glad I did because I enjoyed a moment in which really brought a smile to my face.
Right before I got sick, 4 years ago, I used to run most nights, and on my runs I used to come across a man and his dog. He clearly had a disability,(I think was caused by an accident) he had a patch across one of his eyes, and he really stuggles to walk. He is about late 30s to 40s, and he walked with his dog by his side.
Everytime I ran past him, no matter how tired I was(although I said it was before I got sick, I was still having CFS symptoms of which I had no idea what they were) I always made sure I looked at him, smiled and said "gday mate". He would usually smile back, but there were days where he didn't feel like looking up and acknowledging me, which I completely understood. I could see clearly he struggled to walk, yet there he was every night with his best friend by his side, I made sure I would never complain about things, because I saw his struggles, and the courage he showed to smile.

Well when I went for a walk this evening, from a distance, I saw him, I smiled and waved. I'm not sure if he recognized me, but seeing him, really touched me.
4 years ago, I had no idea what challenges and set backs would lie ahead, but seeing him tonight made me think of CFS sufferers, whatever happens, the most important thing is putting one foot in front of the other. If there are days you don't feel like smiling, thats fine, tomorrow is another day.
I hope I see him again sometime soon, I'll be sure to say hello and give him a friendly smile. :)

One gift of suffering, I think I have gained , is complete compassion with what human suffering is...and it brings us closer to the whole of humanity so we are no longer alone....I wish you the best on your path, sending good energy to you.....hugs....
