my tale of woe
sorry but I need to vent. You aren't obligated to read this, but I just need to ramble so please excuse me.
you know that AT&T commercial of a goat kicking a hiker's backpack off a mountain. Right now I'd like that goat to KICK my friend in the head (and ass) to if it would knock some sense into her.
She has problems with her back. (and her knee and her hip) I know that she isn't faking it, but she tends to put some DRAMA into the pain. And makes SURE me and her husband (and any adult with two ears) knows about it. She had an accident several years ago, right after I first came down here to VA. She volunteers as an editor for our townhouse village newsletter. She hands them out. I started helping her. We divided the streets (there are 6 streets in the community. she has volunteers (residents) on 3 of those streets to pass out the newsletters on those specific streets) Well I don't know how long she'd been delivering the newsletters, but there are some residents whose steps are out of code, meaning they are higher than they are supposed to be. I don't know how some of these residents live like that. But my friend was delivering to one of the worst houses, the top step was about 10 inches or so. The steps aren't supposed to be higher than 7 or 8 inches (I believe) so she fell off the step and injured her leg. Ever since then one leg is slightly longer than the other.
So she's gotten shots and physical therapy for it. I won't hear about her aches and pains for a long time. She went to her daughter's birthday party this Sat. They took the kid and 7 of her friends down to Fredericksburg to Funland. a place where you can play games and do stuff like laser tag. Well my friend has been fine for a long time. Then on Sun she starts complaining about her sciatica. And I have to wonder what she did at funland that might have aggrivated it. But she gave an oscar winning performance Sun night. I suggested several things to her, including taking a hot bath with epsom salts. But she said she couldn't get into a tub. But last night her husband suggested going to a rec center and using their whirlpool (which she did)
She was supposed to call her orthopedist, she goes to him every 6 weeks for shots. But she never did, she called her physical therapist. She hadn't gone to them in a while, and she should know she can't just call them up without getting a prescription from the orthopedist (that is how it works) She has an appt with the orthopedist for her shots (this is an appt she'd made the last time she was there for shots) So she has decided to wait till next TUES (when she has her appt) instead of seeing if she can get a prescription now.
I asked her last night if she thinks she can wait that long and she said she could. all I know is I had to deal with sciatic pain myself. The years of doing data entry work took a toll on my body. I used to take hot baths, heating pad and (the best and thing I miss the most) my mom used to massage mineral ice OR ben gay into my back.
I'm not trying to sound unsympathetic to her pain. But knowing her as long as I have now she tends to embellish things (like the time when I was watching the earlier season of Dancing with the Stars and she comes into the room complaining of a low grade fever and holding a thermometer in her hand. I threw my attention to the show and they were panning the audience and I think I see David Carradine in the audience. My friend is a MAJOR fan of his. My friend and I met online because of our mutual love of the show Kung FU (and Kung Fu the Legend Continues. I became a fan of Chris Potter because of that show)
Well when I mentioned to her I think I see David in the audience she popped off that couch like a jack in the box and said "Where?" And sure enough they pan the audience again and there was David. My friend rushed down to the basement and told her group (David Carradine yahoo group she started) to turn on the show and watch. Well it was a miracle. David had CURED my friend of her low grade fever.
If I went around telling everyone about every physical ache and pain I have. OR about what it's like dealing with depression I might as well pull the covers over my head and not bother getting up. I get up everyday. even on days like today where it's raining, dark dreary and the mood in this house is dark and dreary too.
It didn't help when my friend's daughters two friends show up, unannounced, on our door step at 7pm. The kid was over at a friend's house (she lives in the neighborhood) showing off her new cell phone she'd gotten on her birthday. The friend called up some mutual friends (I think it's the only number, aside from our house number the kid has in her phonebook) and these two kids got it in their heads to walk all the way here. They got lost a few times but with the modern technology on their cells they managed to get here. I don't think they realized that a trip that takes about 5 mins by car would take at least 30 mins to walk (longer since they got lost)
No one seemed to think about telling these two girls about the dangers of walking out there even in broad daylight. We already had some scares around town with someone wanting to abduct some kids (not recent events but when my friend's daughter was in elementary school (she just turned 13 and is in middle school, 7th grade) there was some guy looking to take off with kids. The school sent home notices and my friend decided to escort her daughter to school.
I mean was I asleep when the news broke that this is a safe world and kids can go walking off on their own? I keep thinking of a case of Aton Patz, a story that took place in Brooklyn in 1977. He was 6 and his mother let him walk to the corner by himself for the first time to catch the school bus. He never made it there. And no one knew what happened to him, there were rumors over the years, until last year when the guy who abducted him confessed. It made the news, he abducted the kid and killed him and buried his body in a building basement.
Anyway I'm trying to recover from the past few days. yesterday started out okay, I left after my friend told me she was going to call her doctor. I took myself out and had lunch and went to Target. I got a gift card over the holidays and I was waiting until they got spring clothes in. I don't think they have good quality clothes, I ended up getting women's plus sizes, I usually take a womens (misses) XL I was looking at some nice blouses but they fit too snug. I don't have this problem in other places I shop.
Anyway, I went to coldstone creamery for ice cream and took the bus back home. things went well until last night (the unexpected brats showing up )
I should write about my life living in an insane asylum. I bet people wouldn't believe some of the shit I've seen go on around here.
Thanks for letting me Vent
I can hear that Gloria Gaynor song "I Will Survive" in my head right now.

Well you need to turn Gloria all the way up! Have a better day, Hugs, ~Estel
Wow! How well I know that feeling. Your journal serves to remind me of when I hurt my back and pulled my hip out, yes, it did hurt. But I didn\'t get to complain because nobody would have listened anyways. I am happy to be your friend and I promise, I won\'t complain too much. You are so sweet, but I do know what it is like to be around somebody who makes sure you know about their aches and pains. I also know what it is like to be around somebody you don\'t say a word to, only listen to them complain, lol
thanks guys. It doesn\'t help for someone like me, suffering from depression, to be around someone who acts like the world should stop. She is going to her doctor today to see about her hip. I hope he can help her.
big hugs
