My son try to commit suicide again

My son try to commit suicide again after getting out of Linden Oaks Hospital, by laying on the train tracks. Luckily, a police officer saw him, and pulled him off.   He went back to Linden Oaks Hospital again for 4 days and now he is out again.   This drama is killing all of us.
However, we told him he can go to this nice Hospital in Wisconsin for a month or leave.  (Recommend highly by the staff at Linden Oak. )  That's the two choices.
This is hard for us! But what else can we do.  We being doing this for 7-8 years now.   We done everything and our mental and emotion health are waning.  My wife, luckily for me, is a very upbeat person, it's nice waking up to somebody that so cheerful regardless of the events.
Anyway, now, he has to save himself.  It's his choice.  If we let him stay, he'll just do the same thing.     In  the last 3-4 weeks he missed seeing his court contacts 3 times in a row. Stole a book out of a
store and got caught by the police, and this was after getting release from Cook County Jail just
a weeks ago. He also sold my wife's laptop recently as well. I could go on here , but
that serve no purpose.
I am very tire of this punishing life he gives me, and he has never tried to help himself.  We feel his pain and it seeps into every fiber of our being.
Tying our life to him, no matter how much we love him, is like tying ourselves to a boulder.  We are just drowning in his pain. We know no matter what we do or how much we love him or cry about him, nothing will be able to help him anyway.  He needs to do that for himself.
It's time to Let go of pain! It isn't easy but we love him and done all that we possible could do.

I\'m so sorry for all that you are going through. I remember one of my journal entries awhile back when I wished that God would just take Britt so she wouldn\'t feel any more pain and nether would I not alone my family. It is so hard dealing with an addict in the family, if they only knew. You are right, he needs to want to help himself and until he does there isn\'t anything that you can do. There are days I\'d wish that Britt would be in jail. At least I would know she\'s alive in there and to me jail is better than where\'s she\'s at now. I never in a million years thought I\'d want my daughter to go to jail, my thinking is just messed up anymore. So, I totally understand your pain and what you are going through. Since he\'s tried twice to commit suicide have you checked into getting some kind of court order to have him committed?

I live in WI, would you like to share the name of the hospital? Your wife sounds awesome, you are so very lucky to have her.

You\'re in my prayers!

HUGS!

Jack, this is so trying to say the least for you and your family. I agree with Linn, can you get him court ordered to a hospital for long term treatment. I too can understand and relate to how it tears you apart emotionally, mentally and physically, he is taking you down with him. I don\'t think he understands what he is doing to his loved ones, as his brain is still stuck at the age when he started using. You are so fortunate to have a upbeat and supportive wife. If you ever need to talk, you have my cell number, please feel free to call me. You and your family are in my thoughts and prayers.

HUGSSSSS

Hi. I don\'t know you but read your comment on drap\'s journal. Please re-visit and read mine. Anyway, I have lost a son to an accidental drug overdose. He was a struggling addict and only 21 when he died less than 3 years ago. I understand your statement of \"this punishing life\". I understand how \"this life is killing us\". I felt those things, too. But please, know this, as long as he is alive there is hope. Please don\'t give up. I don\'t have any answers as to what to do. But, I do know this....if your sons life is taken, in any manner, you will long for the struggles you are having. You can still try. When your child is dead, there is no trying....only missing. Peaceful wishes, Ginger

Oh Ginger, so sorry to hear about your son. Can\'t even imagine. My son has been trying to kill himself, which as you probably guess is hard to stop. Yes, we are trying, but we also know it\'s really up to him. We are not walking away from him. We are giving him a choice. Go to a place that will try to help him, or leave. We are hoping he\'ll choose in favor of himself. If not, then there is not much we can do anyway.

In your situation, your son didn\'t mean to take his own life. He was a victom of the drugs and his attachment to them. That is very sad as well, since every mother and father hopes their sons & daughter will conquer this, and lead a good life. I am so sorry for your loss, and I know you miss him dearly. Our situations is a bit different but has the same risk of course. The important thing to remember is you, as a good parent cannot be held accountable for their actions. Letting them stay is sometimes as bad as letting them go. Why?? because until they reach the bottom, or realize they can no longer use you for their destructive prupose, they either have to wake up from their nightmare and get clean or they will continually use and steal until they are arrested, over dose, or killed themselves. (There is no in between here) That is the reality we all face and it a very harsh one. One no one choose to walk with.

Thanks- jack
