My sister's surgery

Sep 3, 2012 1:30pm
I was just about to leave and visit my sister in the hospital.  She had a HUGE tumor on her ovary.  They operated on Fri and ended up having to do a hysterectomy, so she has major scars now.  The good news is that they were able to completely remove the tumor, altho it had adherred to several organs incluing her urethra.  They had to remove part of the urethra and insert a stent.  The bad news is that the doctor says part of the tumor had a 'definite malignant' look.  I don't know what that means exactly, just that it sounds scary.  They'll have biospy results back by Wed.
So my sister, Missy, caught me on the way out the door and said they found urine in her abdominal stent and that's bad and that she had to go back to surgery.  I tried to call nurse to get more details but the nurse just said she'll call me back.
Has anyone ever heard of this problem?  I'm going to post this on the support site as well.  I'm so scared and trying hard not to project and just remain calm.
Of course, on a funny note, I swear her house is trying to kill me!  I almost knocked myself out on her window sill.  So now I have a terrible headache and keep rubbing forehead - forgetting the huge knot on it!  Then yesterday, when I got back from the hospital, I reached for some conditioner and her mirror was broken on edge.  I sliced my middle finger open from knuckle to knuckle and the damn thing just wouldn't stop bleeding!!  Went thro like 1/2 dozen napkins and a dozen bandaids.  Finally stopped after an hour or so.  Whew.  I'm beat - literally.  haha.  I get clumsy when I'm tired for sure.
I'm just praying things will go well and she'll be in less pain.  This is just the first of several surgeries.  The others are for the tumor in her head/spine.  Those are the really scary ones.  Yikes.

Sounds like you had a rough time. Will keep you & your sister in my prayers. Sounds like your sister may be having some reflux with her stent. I am positive they will get it taken care of.

Don\'t know why doctors say things. 11 years ago the doctors called my family together & told them I wouldn\'t make it through the night. AND here I am typing away......I think I just wanted to prove them wrong....Most of the time they are guessing at a diagnosis unless they have a test that actually \"PROVES\" what you have.

You and your sister shouldn\'t worry until the biopsy comes back. She needs to get strong for her next bout of surgeries. Those sound horrible. She is lucky to have you there with her.

God bless both of you.

Ta Cheryl. The surgery today went well. The stent was leaking urine into her abdomen and they were able to repair with only 15 minutes and no new cuts. Yes!

She doesn\'t even know about the possible malignancy. She said she didn\'t want to know - to me and the doctor. So I\'m just waiting for the results tommorow! Then I pray I\'ll have good news to force on her.

So very tired today. I actually fell back onto bed fully clothed and slept on and off till 3pm!!! I was relieved not to have to go to the hospital right away - I\'m so tired. My sis called and said to stay home. Come tomorrow. I might do that but boy, do I feel bad about it. I\'ve been to see her every day at least once for several hours. That\'s amaz balls in my condition. Guess it\'s all catching up to me now. So tired...

Ta again for the comments. I\'m hanging in here but it\'s so much easier with friends! I don\'t know anyone but Missy down here and it\'s a bit lonely. Even with the 4 conures, two cats and multiple fish. I miss my Missy.

Hope you are well. Take care, Nibs
