My response to a personals ad last week

I may understand a little of what your going through right now. You decide you want someone in your life. That your ready to try it all once again. So you start by finding a site not entirely populated with serial killers, and look though the photograph's. Window shopping... Looking at all of those men. Its like going to the pound to look for puppy's. Looking for one you can relate to, one you can work with, one with big, soulful eyes, that's cute, smart, playful, but one that won't trash your home when your gone. There are similarity's, you have to admit. So you place an add, only to discover that they expect you to write who you are, and what your looking for... Everyones 3th circle of hell. Who doesn't dread this sort of thing? Unless you were an English major, these sort of miniature essays fall just short of sadism. You know who you are... don't they? Can't they tell by the picture? Sigh... And then you have to attempt to articulate the sort of man you want, to make all of your dreams come true. And you think back onto that rouges gallery, of all of the men you have ever known... The good, the bad, and the ugly. And as you contemplate all of this, you relive the highs and lows of your own romantic past, and contemplate what you got right, and what you wish to god you could do over again... So many men in the space of one lifetime. Some of them long forgotten, some who still make you smile, some that you miss to this very day, and some of them who look back at you still, through the eyes of your children. Was it worth it? Is it ever? There truly are no good answers for some questions. And you sigh, and ask yourself, is this all really something you want to revisit? But then you recall the joys of the little gifts for no reason, and the failed attempts to make you a pie, and slow dancing in the living room, just because, he says, your pretty, and the sweet tingle of someone gently biting the back of your neck, as he caresses the inside of your thigh. And you press the send key. And quite suddenly, there you are... next to all of the other women, who have decided to take a chance, and spin the wheel, one, more, time.
