My Mom is doing Better
My mom is out of the hospital. She's doing a lot better. The clot that caused the stroke broke up and didn't do any more damage. All the tests she had done came out negative, so there's no more clots to worry about for now. They said she could go back to work tomorrow, since they don't want her sitting at home doing nothing. She doesn't have health insurance, but they are working with her to find a way to pay for it. Since she's uninsured, they cut her bill by a certain percent, and then they can work with her to lower it even more hopefully. As long as she pays something on it every month, there's nothing that they can do (like send it to a collection agency). I'm sure she will figure out something for her to get her bills paid. I was surprised that they just sent her home with aspirin and nothing else, but I guess it was that minor that she doesn't need to be put on heavier drugs. I don't think she could afford them if they gave them to her, but there are programs that would be able to help maybe if they did. I should ask her if they gave her anything else again.... because she might not want to admit that she needs help paying for her medication. They also sent her home with exercises to do as part of physical therapy so she can get more strength back in her right side. I'm just so relieved that she's going to be okay. I was so worried!
As for me, today went okay... I went to work and applied for that job I talked about yesterday. I will see if I get a call back or not. It's a temp part time job scanning in documents. It's just the kind of thing I'm looking for. It's something part time, so I don't have to worry about making too much money, and it's a temp job so I don't have to worry about having to leave if I start to feel bad. I can't tell you, though, how much going to work makes me feel better. I wake up feeling like crap, and then I go to work and I start to feel better. I may come home tired, and I may have problems with my coworkers, but it just lifts my spirits to get out of the house and do something positive. I can't wait until I get a paying job where I can feel even better, knowing I'm bringing in some money.
It's hard being broke. I thought I would be able to do more with the money I was getting for SSDI, but with paying for things like therapy out of pocket ($40 a session) it's going pretty fast. If I could get even a couple hundred more a month I would be able to save more (I'm saving up for my trip to LA in January) and have a comfortable cushion to fall back on. I would lose my food stamps, but that's only $50 a month that I'm getting. Actually, I don't know if I would lose them or not. They said when I was supposedly getting SSDI and SSI ($674 more a month than I actually get) that I would still get food stamps. I just don't know about Medicaid. I can't wait until I qualify for Medicare, so I don't have to worry about paying so much for my health insurance costs. I don't know how it would work with going to therapy and stuff, but I would find a way. Well, if I was able to save up some money we could work on getting a car, and that would make me less reliant on the bus and able to get to things like therapy faster. Oh, the things I wish I could do right now...
Food today was okay... I'm at 1,200 calories for the day. I'm way low, but I'm drinking a lot of water so I'm not able to eat as much. I'm low on protein and stuff for the day, but I'm kinda broke right now so I don't know if I will be able to get more protein powder. I would love to get stuff like Greek yogurt, but I'm out of food stamps, too. I have to wait until after the first of the month to get the stuff I need. I have money in the bank, but it needs to go to my pills. My pills can't really wait, but luxury food can. I shouldn't have gotten the Wheat Thins and hummus at the store, but I really wanted them. Not like it would have made much of a difference, but I still feel bad for it.
Mood was good today... I felt good knowing my mom was doing better, and going to work felt good too. I talked a bit to Claudia and she and I are starting to form a friendship. I will see how that goes. I hope to be friends with her... she seems nice when you are on her nice side. I certainly don't want to be on anyone's bad side. Stress was low today, and no emotional eating. Sleep was bad... it took me forever to fall asleep and then I was up for an hour and a half at 7am. I'm not tired now, but I hope I can sleep well tonight.
