My latest ADVENTURE!

So yesterday, I went to the volksmarch by myself.   I got there at 10am... should have gotten my butt going earlier because everyone was practically finished as I was heading out.   Oh well.... I met lots of people (also noticed a few single men, lol).... new friends?  No, not yet, but there's potential!   So I'm joining the group, gonna see if there are others that I can develop better contacts with for the future.

The hike itself.   It was a choice between 5K and 10K and I decided to go ahead and do the 10K.   It was beautiful, weather was perfect (posting photos!).   The hike went along a two track road back into the Black Hills along a meadow.   As I walked, I thought about the history... this area is where Custer entered the Black Hills during his expedition.   It was supposed to be to scout out the area, mostly for mapping, but there were people in his party who were specifically focused on the rumors of gold.   It was this trip that triggered the gold rush, and forced the native americans onto reservations.
So as I walked, I thought about that... thought about the people, the wagons, traveling by horseback... I thought about what they saw, how the native americans lived... The organizers mentioned the original homestead and I thought about surviving out there back then (in the 1880's) and today.   Can't be easy either time period... in the 1880's there was NO help.   Even today, the area is 15 miles from the nearest town, 2 miles just from the highway to the house.   And this area gets SNOW, FEET of SNOW.... As I walked, I could see where they had to be self sufficient.... chickens roaming the yard.... corrals for bringing horses and cattle in.   It was VERY  interesting.

So, as I walked back alone, I found myself singing in my head, lol.   I've never done that before.   I like this feeling of contentment.  So when I got back to the trailhead, I picked up a beginner's packet, got lots of information on future hikes.   Yep, I have a feeling this is going to take me somewhere - like on a new ADVENTURE!

LATER!

YOU ARE AMAZING!!!! You have blossomed in your new life and it is so impressive! I could never have done what you did and really admire you.

And look...who knows where a new man will come from. Never say never. I dont know about you, but I met my boyfriend on match .com. Who knew?? I wasnt really looking for a long term relationship, just to get out of the house and see if I still \"got it\" if you know what I mean.

Anyway...great for you for doing this walk. Again you are simply amazing!!! Sandy

I hear contentment in this journal and that you are settling into this new life you are making for yourself. You work hard and play hard. You are making goals and standing up for yourself. Keep up the good work.

You and I would get along well! I LOVE hiking!! I have done many hikes near Yellowstone and the Tetons. The Black Hills sound like another beautiful area to hike in.

The Black Hills are AMAZING and SPECIAL. I\'ve lived here for 20 years now and STILL find things I\'ve never known about before. Anytime you need a vacation, drop me a note and we can go exploring! (more photos on yesterday\'s hike - Spring Creek - will be posted tomorrow - because I\'m about to be late for work, lol!)
