My kid and my car

For those of you that have gotten to know me a bit you may find this a bit amusing.Let me start by saying that it ended okay, so before anyone gets upset for me...don't...I'm making jokes about it now. Keeping my sense of humour has always been one of my strong points and it came in handy on Saturday.Andrew was out on Saturday helping friends get ready for their wedding. He had my car and checked in with me every now and then, which is his routine since getting his license 2 months ago. ( He's 21 and got his N, which means Novice, no longer a learner and doesn't need a supervisor in the car with him anymore). He's generally a good driver. I've ridden with him a lot, since it took him 4 yrs of having an L to get around to taking the test and passing to get his N.So around 12:30 I get a call. "Mom, you're going to kill me" "Why?" " Well, I put the car in a ditch. " Pause. "But, I'm okay and we think the car is too." " For CHRISSAKES, START WITH THAT NEXT TIME!!!" So then came a series of phone calls and wait times while I wondered how bad it was, how big this ditch was, etc. until he finally called to say that there were 3 "car guys" there who all looked at it and said that the car was alright, no damage to the undercarriage, axles, wheels, etc. Tow truck got the car out and cost Andrew $70. He called the police to report it because he didn't know he didn't have to, so he got charged with "undue care and attention" and got a $360 fine.A very expensive lesson.But all in all it could have been worse. And if this is the accident that scares the crap out of him and makes him a better driver, then okay.As for me, once I got my heart out of my throat and knew that Andrew and the car were okay, I spent the afternoon deciding how to handle this. I'm going with "get right back on the horse". However, it was probably a good thing for Andrew that he didn't come home right away. I had time to cool off.Not that I was in love with the swamp car when he did bring it home. He'd hosed it off but it still smelled of ditch and had grass hanging off the bottom and out of the hubcap. And when we opened the doors on that side we discovered algae in the door frames. Lovely!
