My hobbies and interests before the limbo of now
Good morning journal, the time is 8:06am,I have been awake since just before 5:00am,when my canine children roused me by needing to go outside. After they had finished performing their early morning ablutions,we returned to bed beside my wife and slept for another hour or so.They demanded my attention again at 7:35am,and I abandoned the thought of further rest, and made myself a coffee and sat down at the computer;and when I next looked, there they were,on my side of the bed, huddled protectively in a group around my wife,........let them sleep. This morning, I am in a rambling mood, relaxed and rested, having retired last evening at around 7:15pm,and sleeping soundly and dreamless, waking only to answer calls of nature twice, before my fur children woke me.On reaching my chair,my mind took an unexpected route to the hobbies and interests I used to enjoy;so I have decided to run with it and see where it goes.Angling?;hmmm, yes,I used to love to fish,I remember many glorious hours spent on the river bank near my home in Scotland,my problems in life, whatever I perceived them to be at the time, vanishing when my first cast entered the water. The elation of my first fish, what a fight he gave me;and after my hard fought victory, the reward of returning him to the water to fight another day,for in truth, I could not bring myself to kill such a worthy adversary. That first fish set the mark for me as an angler,I fished for sport, not to kill, every fish I ever caught over the many years I fished, was returned to it's habitat alive, the thrill for me being in documenting my victory, length, weight, date and time caught;and a photograph of a fellow gladiator.I miss angling, but my illness limits me now, although perhaps in the future I may be fortunate enough to once again, dangle a baited line in water somewhere;I live in hope.Lawn bowls was another love,a terribly British game, where one directs polished bowls called woods, towards a small white spherical fellow called the jack,to ascertain who can get closest. The game being of sufficient turns to allow one player to reach a score of 21 points to achieve victory,as long as he was two points clear of his opponent at the time;if not,the game continued until one player gained a two point margin clear of the other.A wonderful way to spend a summer afternoon, and indeed, something I may yet try my hand at again, who knows?.
When I was much younger I played soccer, firstly for my school teams, then for several amateur sides, representing my county twice, which was a huge honor for me;like being called up to represent one's country, happy days indeed!;and when I became too ancient to kick a ball in anger,I started to coach teams in my spare time, and remember the thrill, and the pleasure I gained, when"my boys" played for me.I don't do too much in the way of hobbies and pastimes now,I still sketch and draw sometimes,I continue to write poetry when the mood takes me;and I have a book somewhere inside me,who knows?,perhaps someday it will force it's way out of my imagination and onto paper. That however,is for the future journal, for now at least,I am relatively content and at peace in my mind;no racing of thought,no dire premonitions of doom.My breathing this morning is semi-comfortable,and that will do for now,I ask no more, for in this limbo of seemingly suspended animation that I find myself in,I can find some gratitude in my soul.Till tomorrow then, walk beside me through another day;may peace and the love of God walk with us also.

How multi-talented you are! I used to love fishing in my younger days, too; although I used to fish from piers and boats, along with a little surf fishing. I have a photo of myself as a 5 year old, holding my first flounder up, which was almost as tall as myself! I can still remember the thrill of catching a fish and feeling it wiggle on the line, although I couldn\'t stand to bait the hook myself because I couldn\'t stand the thought of hurting the poor shrimp!
My Dad used to play soccer for his college. He was almost in the 1936 Olympics for field and track, except he broke his kneecap while pole vaulting which ended his sports career. He ran against Jessie Owens on several occasions, beating Jessie a few times, and Jessie beating him a few. I often wonder what would have happened if my Dad had been able to compete in those Olympics.
I read that you also draw. I took a 6 weeks art class from an online art institute, and was amazed at what I accomplished! I always thought I couldn\'t even draw stick people well, but by the time I finished that class, I had several drawings that I was very proud of (for a beginner). I\'ve kind of dropped drawing since then, due to being busy with work, trying to get my son employed, and health issues. I\'ve been thinking I should get back to it, but lately I seem to have lost a lot of my drive to do anything.
I\'m not sure of the time difference between us, but I hope you enjoy your Saturday. I\'m off work until Tuesday, work 3 days, and then I\'m out another 6 days for Christmas. Enjoy your day, my friend!
