My Friends in Need Teach Me
This week which encompassed a holiday weekend was marked by me building relationships with people who I love and who love me. I was talking to a friend about self esteem and I told him I couldn't understand how he could hate himself so much if he had a friend (me) who cared so much. In building my support network, I am building on love. My friends needed love this week. One friend had family in New Orleans and was devastated by Gustav. He and his family lost a lot during Katrina and this storm threatened their lives again. I sat there helplessly watching him grimly listen to the weather reports. But we hung out to keep our minds occupied. He won miniature golf looking like Tiger Woods while I had no patience and slammed my putting into the greens sending my turquois ball flying. When the hurricane news turned better I was there to watch him tentatively smile. Another friend told me she probably has cancer but needs another test to confirm it. She was pretty upbeat about it and I did my best to be supportive. I was amazed that she was staying in the moment and still trying to enjoy her Labor Day. So building self love is sometimes getting out of my self and attending to others. I think I can do that sometimes.
