My First Day

Hi all,
I just joined today.  I've been reading the blogs and find it very informative & interesting. I quit smoking over two years ago when I had my first exacerbation in Fort Lauderdale, FL. November 19, 2009.  Less than a month after my son was born.  My dad quit smoking cigarettes the day I was born so he could put the money spent on cigs for me.  He never smoked again to the day he died.  My mom never smoked.
I am a yacht captain and have been for over 25 years.  I've been active in water sports, golf, tennis and have never been the kind to go to the beach and just lay there all day.  Its not in my DNA.  So this COPD is quite a shock to my "active" system.  I've had 2 exacerbation since I've been diagnosed with this crap disease.  My bad.  There's nothing good about smoking!!
I lost my last job because of this disease and haven't been able to find work since Feb. 13th.  I mean really, who's going to hire a captain that has COPD?!  I know I wouldn't.  So I've been doing daily exercises, breathing therapy and walking.  I've moved back to the Virgin Islands where I know I can find a job driving tourists around in a nice boat, make good money and not pushing myself too much.  A paid retirement if you will.
