My Egg Donation story
One of the most unexpectedly rewarding experiences of my life was when I helped someone become a parent through egg donation. At 22 years old, I found myself struggling to make ends meet. I had school tuition, rent, car payment, and feeding my puppy to worry about. I was only on the database for a month before they found a match for me. The potential parents were a gay couple from another country. We met over Skype and then we got started. First I met with the couple’s IVF clinic so they could do an exam and blood work. I also spoke with the doctor to go over what to expect medically. The agency got me in contact with a psychologist and a lawyer as well. Once all of those things were completed, it was time for me to start the medications. I was on the medications for a couple weeks then it was time for them to retrieve the eggs. The procedure took only a few minutes and then I was done. After the procedure, I received my compensation but for me the real reward was knowing that I actually helped these soon to be parents achieve their dream of having a child.
A few months later I received a call from the agency and they wanted to set up another Skype call with the couple that I helped. When I got on the call the guys had a huge smile on their faces. They started the conversation with “We Are Pregnant!!” They said they wanted to tell me in person and to thank me again for everything that I went through to get them to this point. I instantly broke down in tears of happiness for them. I couldn’t believe how happy they were and the fact I was a part of their journey really made the whole experience better than I could have ever imagined.
