My Doctor\'s Book

I just found out my Doctor wrote a book.  My friend Jennie called me today and said she just read it.  Jennie is an OVCA patient also.  I met Jennie through Can Care.  She was assigned to me as an advocate/supportor.  Unfortunatley she has had a reoccurance since I first met her.  She is doing well however.  She is doing Avastan this time and having great results.  Anyway here is the book.  My doctors name is Lois Ramondetta. "The Light Within: The Extraordinary Friendship of a Doctor and Patient Brought Together by Cancer"Lois M. Ramondetta

I also am doing Avastin this time plus carboplatin and Gemcitabine. My tumors shrunk way down on my first ct.scan. I\'m scheduled for my next one the 7th. I am very anxious for those results. Thanks for the book info. Hugs, Carol

I think Jennie is only taking the Avastin. She really likes it. She said it only takes one hour to administer, and little to no side effects. Her recurrant tumor is wrapped around her rectum and is inoperative. She had to have a colonostopy. The Avistan her shrunk her tumor almost down to nothing, so they are thinking about reversing her colonostopy. I have heard good things about this Avastin.

Great news about Jennie an the Avastin. I had a similar \"thickening\" around my rectum which my doctor said may result in a colonostopy. So far, that hasn\'t happened and that was over 20 years ago. It is however encouraging that there is something like the Avastin that is working so well.........good news!!!! Intriguing title to your doctor\'s book!! I hope you have a great day today!!! Thanks for posting a journal again too.......nice journal!!!!! Hugs!!!!

The book came today from Amazon. I am looking forward to reading it. I know it does not have a happy ending however.

I finished the book this morning. Very compelling. I could not put it down. We all could relate to some of the things that the patient, (Deb) had been through and her most intimate thoughts and fears. It was good to get to know my doctor in a more human way. I really didn\'t know her very well before reading this book. I have very little time with her, because I see her in the clinic of LBJ, where there are so many patients to see she just doesn\'t have the time. If I really needed her, I am sure she would take the time. I did not know she is from NJ, where I was born and raised. I saw her in a more human way. Got to know why she went into Gyn/Onc instead of taking the other route of bringing babies into the world. She was not the Dr. that I started my journey with, but I am so glad I am in her care now. I am proud and honored that she is my doctor.
