My Daughter

I haven't been on here for a couple of months. Things were going pretty good. I got some negative news from my doctor and have been slowly trying to get better at taking care of myself.

I live with my daughter and grandson. My daughter is bi-polar and we all went through a terrible one of her manic phases in 2010 for about three months. Disrupted the family, I moved out, she and my grandson were completely off their medications for nearly four months. My grandson was a little terror and my daughter was a mess. She ended up coming around and begging me to come back and live with them and help her to raise my grandson. I wrote up a contract which she signed and we went back to all living together as a family. She did the house work, cleaned, cooked and I co-ordinated appointments, helped her remember her responsibilities and techniques we learned in family therapy. I also paid for our cable, power and food. She pays the rent. That went along rather well for the last three years.

So, a few weeks ago my daughter's meds doctor changed her medication and she went into a manic phase again. This happens when ever her meds are changed.

We see a family therapist and my grandson has a PSR. The business we get them from is closing in a couple of months so this is going to be stressful on me. Talking to knew people, getting it all co-ordinated, all falls on me usually.

I think that most will agree that a schedule for a child is important to his mental health. He knows what to expect and things go better. So in the case of my daughter all schedules go out the window to great degree. When she sleeps it is weird hours. She may or may not get him up for school. He may or may not get dinner on time or get to bed on time. And if I question her on any of this(if it's going to happen or not) she tells me I am 'bitching' at her.

I feel very sad and stressed. I didn't sleep at all last night and may not tonight. I have stayed up a few nights during the week just to be sure she gets up and gets him off to school.( I don't have an alarm clock. Need to get me one.) One day she didn't and just let him stay home. So now I have determined that I am going to try to sleep and let my daughter do as she pleases. If he doesn't get up and get to school this will hurt him and in the long run her as well.

This is all horrible and I am coping as well as I can. I really need to see a counselor for myself but can't afford to. I used to get one for free but they have changed the laws now since January 2013. I used to be able to see one of the counselors who didn't have their license yet. They even charge for these now. So I talk to my poor granddaughter who knows the history and her mother's manic behavior.

I am so tired of it all.

I\'m glad you decided to come here and talk about what\'s going on. It\'s very unfortunate that things are so rough right now. You must be a very strong person, I\'m not sure that I would be able to do what you do. God Bless you for all you do for your daughter and grandson. I hope they appreciate you. Good luck coping with all the changes that are coming and I hope and pray that you will find someone to talk to. You need to be OK in order to take care of them. Will keep you all in my prayers.
Hugs, Jean
