My Christmas present

I did not want to do Christmas this year. But Christmas came anyway.
Christmas morning, I decided to go out for a walk. I was spending Christmas at my daughter's; the evening had been fun, especially watching the little ones opening their gifts. But this morning, I needed to be alone, so left them warm and cozy in front of the fire place.
The sun shone down between patches of clouds. It was cold. Not having a plan at all, I just walked. After about 10 minutes or so, I realized I was in the neighbourhood of my dear husband's childhood home. Somehow my feet had taken me in that direction.
I stood on the sidewalk, looking at his old house, inhaling the clear cold air and absorbing Christmases past; imagining David as a child, opening Christmas presents, playing street hockey, eating turkey with his family.
There was nobody about, so I took my time. If anyone looked out their window and saw me staring at the house - too bad.
I walked on down the street and came to the Lake. It was beautiful in its serenity; snow-covered trees at the shoreline, calm water, soft clouds, quiet and peaceful. All of a sudden the sun burst forth, as if David was saying "Hi - Merry Christmas! I was waiting for you!!" He wrapped me up in his warmth and it felt good.
Just then a dog came running up and stuck it's nose between my legs. The owners were horrified, but I just laughed and petted the dog. Now, I know David was here, and he really wanted to get between my legs! What a nice Christmas gift!

Wendy, Thanks for sharing this story of synchronicity, it always amazes me how we are touched and realize that our loves sign to us when we need it. Animals seem to appear to comfort or amuse, sunshine breaks through clouds, our feet take us were we need to go. Hug, Donna
