Following lunch we went North along the coast to see some of the sites. One that seems to fascinate many people is the "water that runs up hill". The water from the hot spring is too hot for anyone to swim directly in it, that’s why you won’t find any “natural” hot springs there. On most of the east coast, you can’t swim because the currents are too strong, while the West coast is mostly industrialized.

If you visit early in the morning, you can witness the Sunrise at Sanxiantai as well. The Amis is one of the largest tribes living along the East coast of Taiwan. An Amis tribal village near Sanxiantai is Pisirian, meaning “goat-herding” in their aboriginal language. The East Coast of Taiwan boasts the most gorgeous coastal view – yet the most underrated – that you don’t want to miss. Check the local weather here or ask your hotel before heading there. Not a whole lot here, but we had a relaxing walk around the area, and particularly enjoyed the one-of-a-kind paper lanterns created by children.
Cha Tzu Tang products can be found at physical stores and online store, and it’s also sold at the international airport for last minute shoppers. Nothing says I thought of you while on vacation to the beer lover in your life better than bringing a few bottles of local beer back to share while relating your adventures abroad. When returning from Taiwan, your gift is bound to also carry with it something of a “whaaaaaaat…? ” factor, as very few people outside of Taiwan are aware of Taiwan’s awesome craft beer scene. So bringing home a few bottles of a local Taiwanese beer isn’t a bad conversation starter either.

The artificially constructed "Flowing Lake" is where "Austronesian Cultural Festival" is held. The annual dragon boat race and national triathlon also take place here. The naturally formed "Pipa Lake" is quiet and beautiful, like a piece of natural painting. With a visit to Fugang Fishery Harbor, a favorite shopping spot in Taitung, you can find the perfect gifts to bring home.
There are trains starting from Taitung city, but most of them start in Hualien. These trains are bound for Kaohsiung, but you do not have to go all the way to Kaohsiung. Just get off the train at Fangliao, it will be cheaper and faster.

We first went to some of the parks that are near the sea. There are many walking trails and places for people to get together for family gatherings. One of the most interesting items they had on display was a very large orange pumpkin.
It is the best and most efficient way to enjoy the East. You may choose torent a car from Taipeito drive to Taitung. You will need to present your international driver’s license.
We managed spending a full day exploring all above spots and still got to reach Hualien, an hour before dusk. The next 10km drive took us to the designated and well-rounded East Coast National Scenic Area. The region is full of charming spots, nearest to Amis Folk center and Douli beach.
