muscle biopsy consult

Nothing like getting mixed messages from a doctor to make you feel like your doing the right thing.  Today I saw the surgeon for my muscle biopsy consult.   He was asking me about my condition etc...when I asked him how being on a seroid could affect the results of a muscle biopsy.   He said it can definitely affect the results and asked why my rheumy wanted one when i had been on steroids for going on 3 weeks now.  i said i guessed i really didnt know.  he just said he wanted one.   what the rheumy said was that it may come back inconclusive and if it does, it isnt going to change his diagnosis but that MAYBE it would give him some information.   The surgeon said yes thats true but if it isnt going to change my treatment plan one way or the other sometimes you have to wonder why your putting yourself thru the time, pain, and expense.   My step-mom who was with me said "it sounds to me like you are saying she shouldnt have this done".  To which he said, "Oh no...I'm not saying that.  I do what the doctor tells me to do.  I just wonder why they do them if they wont affect their treatment plans one way or the other sometimes".   ???  I guess this is just one of hose things that I wont know if it was beneficial or not until AFTER its done.   I guess it may be inconclusive but maybe not.  And if not and it does give him more info it will be worth it.  I'm having it done in my left tricep.  Local anesthetic and sedation.   He said they can make me as sleepy as I want to be and most people do very well with the sedation and a lot of them dont even remember the procedure.  He said it will be sore for a couple of weeks.  Great!   More pain!  The surgery scheduler s calling me today or tomorrow with a day and time but he said it will likely be this week still.
