Moving On
Yesterday I got the phone call confirming that I had been accepted as a volunteer at a Charity Store in the town. I begin tomorrow. I have never done this sort of work before. My work, over the past five years, has mainly been done online and while I have been in schools I have not gone to the one place regularly. This has contributed to the isolation and alienation I have felt. No one thing explains the situation I have found myself in over the past three months. My new low has come as a result of many colliding forces. If I have sounded bleak it is because this is the first time in three years that I have been prodding and cleaning the wounds, endeavouring to move forward. To admit that I feel bereft has been a major step forward. Volunteering at the Charity Store will not be an answer by itself. I do have another creative project that I will focus on, that will hopefully stop me from just eating away at what capital I have. But first I have some courses to do, some people to see, some places to visit. Warm thanks to everyone who has posted comments on my journal. I feel I have come here, naked without an identity other than that of someone experiencing intense grief. Being amongst fellow sufferers has made all the difference.

Good luck with the new volunteer work. Having something to occupy a bit of time does help. I gripe about going to work everyday but without it, I would be pretty much worse off then I am. The work tends to put my mind else where, which eats up 8 hrs of my thinking time. I hope you find it really helpful and you enjoy it. Take care shelly.
I am glad the volunteer position went through. Anything that helps the grief is a good thing. I am trying to find something more lucrative to do to money goes out so much faster than it comes in. I hope it all works out for you! Hugs!!!
There is never just one thing that solves a problem, in our case it is many little things. For a long time I could not concentrate well enough to get moving. Once my mind was clearer I did many small activities, just having coffee with a friend every Sunday morning was good. The requirement of showing up on a regular basis somewhere has kept me from settling for work or volunteering. I do plan to look into some time spent in the local food bank but not on a regular basis. I like having ability to wake up every day and do as I please.
Love....
We all share those feelings and I know for me sharing them with others, like yourself, who truly know and understand this path we now find ourselves on has been a great help. Slowly but surely we make our way through whatever we have left of our lives and it sounds like you\'re doing really well right now, which is great. I\'m sure it gives you hope for the future and just reading this gives me hope for myself l so, so thanks for that. Good luck with the volunteer work. Patrick
Good for you getting out there! Sounds like it will be good for you. Try to enjoy the new people. Take care.
Speaking for myself, I believe we tend to isolate ourselves. To vounteer is a wonderful gift your giving. Keep us posted. Hugs, Pat

It\'s great that you have taken this step, Heather. I hope that getting out there with folks is as good for you as it has been for me. There are times I don\'t really want to go to work, but I am always glad when I do get there. You go, girl!
They say what goes around comes around. Giving of yourself to help others is the best gift one can give.
This is a wonderful step for you to have taken. My husband believed so fervently in volunteering to help others that I intend to do so after I retire. Meanwhile, I have a whole project going here with lots of us knitting chemo caps to donate to hospice.
I hope this goes well for you. It\'s good to see that you have a lot of other ideas to launch now as well.
Hugs, Gail
