Moving next summer?

Hubby has been asked to teach at a college in Maui (we live on the island of Oahu) and wants to know when he can start. Jeff told him that his schedule is pretty much lined out for the year so it will have to be for next fall. Which means we would move to the island of Maui in the summer! Oahu is super crowded and we have been looking for a way to move to another island. Maui is slightly bigger and only has a fraction of the population of Oahu. But the island has no freeways or highways. Mostly one lane roads that are twisty. Their grocery stores are also much smaller which means very limited items. But that's how the other islands are. And the VA clinic is way smaller, only a few docs. I was told I will have to be flown back to Oahu if I need any radiology or lab work. I'm actually tired of moving around and it is stressful. Moving to another island is a big deal. Just thinking about it sometimes overwhelms me. But in the long run this is what we want. I am both excited and nervous!
My feet have been on fire pretty much every night. This happens every summer but is usually manageable with cool water. Cool water is not helping this time and I have resorted to putting ice packs on my feet at night in order to get any sleep. Last night my toes were actually hot to the touch and my legs felt hot, too, like I had been in the sun all day. But I was at the VA in the AC, not in the sun. I was able to schedule an appt with my doc for my feet. When I spoke to the nurse on the phone about it he tried to tell me that he didn't think my doc could help me with whatever is going on. Ohhh the nerve! Just get me the appt and shut up, ass! Why do people say things like that?
My mom called the other day and told me she gained about 20 lbs. She said it had something to do with the food they serve in her senior facility, lots of carbs. She also said that my older brother is getting her a tablet. She wanted to know what that was. I told her it's like a small lap top with out a key board. So maybe she'll be back on DS soon.
I'll be working on my song with the worship leader from church on Thursday. I am looking forward to it!

Wow! Sounds like a lot going on, but also some positive things in the mix. I\'m happy for you in regards to the move since that was something you wanted to do. Are there other options in terms of getting your groceries when you move, like ordering stuff online & getting it shipped to eliminate the limited availability of stuff? Yeah, healthcare isn\'t what it used to be. Right, the nerve of that nurse! Like, sometimes they can be so inconsiderate & insensitive.
Some places don\'t ship to Hawaii and some do. Shipping prices can cost a lot and it takes quite a while for things to arrive here. We recently tried to order some peanuts (from a brand we like) and they wanted a $40 shipping charge so we canceled. We will have to find someone close to the store or who will drive out there to buy some for us and ship it. I\'ll have to look into if some stores can ship from Oahu but most places ship from the mainland US. Oh well we will have to make do with what we can get over there. We will be able to visit Oahu every few months and bring some stuff back. Besides, I\'m sure our friends can mail stuff to us every now and then. lol
That sounds exciting about the move! What an adventure! My parents used to live in Kauai in the 70\'s when my dad worked for NASA. Then they moved back to Maryland (where my dad is from) and right away had me. I narrowly missed living in Hawaii dammit! When I was a kid I used to look at their pictures from that time and fantasize about moving there when I grew up. Never happened lol! But I still want to visit some day. Are you from Hawaii originally?
No. I was born in PA but move to Indonesia a lot while growing up. We moved back and forth a lot. Went to visit Hawaii while in the Marines in 2004 one day and decided if I got out I was going to move here. I was put on a med board in 2004 for asthma and a back injury so in 2005 when they found me unfit for duty and asked me where to send me I told them send me to Hawaii. I received my discharge papers here in the summer of 2005.
HELLO, maybe it will be better to move to a quieter place, so sorry about the feet, I too been having burning in my right foot, you can put 3 drops of tea tree oil , lavender and see if it helps, its the nerves that don\'t work well, you are taking meds ,otherwise saint john wort helps to relax the nerves, ask your doctor, now I got some juice to take , well see how it goes, thanks for your support, love Lucy**
