Moving forward with FET #1
I met with the RE on Tuesday to go over the results of my bloodwork. The only thing that came back positive was MTHFR. I am now on a prescription for extra folic acid and B vitamins to counter it (Folgard I think?). I informed my RE that we are going on a trip and we'll be ready to go with our first FET after that. I got the usual "call with the start of your period!" and after that we start bc pills again. Of course, we're hoping for the next period to then come on our trip. Not quite how I pictured our vacation going BUT the good news is that I won't have to worry about everything while on the trip and I can just enjoy it otherwise, which has been the plan all along.
With our *immaculate* timing, we expect to transfer just before Thanksgiving. For those of you that follow my journey, you'll know my first IVF transfer was on Memorial Day, and I was concerned I was causing people to miss cookouts with family until I saw at least three other women transferring that day too. I just hope that we don't miss our family feast this year! Hopefully we transfer the day before, or even the day after, but I hope not the day of. No more holidays!
This was a bit of a tough decision for me as I am concerned that MTHFR isn't the only problem and maybe we are going into this without ruling out all other possible m/c causes. If that's the case, we won't make it through this time either. But I remain optimistic that my RE is good and he knows exactly what he's doing. I was also contemplating waiting til Jan 1 so that I could use Flex Spending money, but DH reminds me we may have to try again next year anyway with the last of our frozen babies, so we'd need that $5000 then too. EIther that or we'll have medical expenses of delivering a baby, so I'm going for it.
Finally, good news, I told my RE that PIO shots are OUT for me this time around. I told him I am not going to put my body through that again, physically or mentally. He actually said OK pretty easily which surprised me. There was a snotty little resident in my consult who was furiously nodding her head yes when I asked if I HAD to do shots again (no offense to my MD/DO friends on here!) and then she looked shocked when he said OK and we would use a different approach. Needless to say I ignored her during the consult. I know she needs to learn, but I'm paying HIM the big bucks, not her and I don't need her two cents or attitude! I am so happy that I should be almost completely needle-free this time around. My body is still not right from round one and that was almost 3 months ago. I haven't been able to shake the weight gain and bloating, and my bladder feels like the size of a walnut now. NOT COOL and none of this did I expect nor was I prepared for.
I am happy we have a plan and hopefully we have more success this time around. Losing the babies was awful, both mentally and physically. I'd prefer not to do that again! God is great and I know my plans aren't always His plans. For now I continue to enjoy life and I'll be calling with my next period... :)
