Mother's Day gifts
I had a nice Mother's Day. My husband and I were out of town since Wednesday and came home late Saturday night to discover that our middle son cut the lawn, cleaned the van inside and out, spotless kitchen and food in the frig. He even made fruit salad. So there is hope ~ LOL! This the son who used to forget to flush the toilet! He seems to really be bouncing back from the break up of his girlfriend. Maybe the counseling is really helping him. He's actually seeing two counselors. I didn't want the time between appointments be too far away from each other anyway. The one is a doctor (who doesn't carry our insurance - hope to get some $ back with the out-of-network plan) but he has addiction credentials along with mental health. The other I knew he would bond with him because my youngest went to him and we did too at one point. This son's drinking seems to be "better" - at least it isn't obvious when he went on that binge. He was accepted to study abroad in Germany and I am not feeling very comfortable with this one. I talked to him and said that once school is finished this semester he HAS to attend AA regularly in order for us to financially support him with his dream of studying abroad. We will see. Best laid plans.
Youngest son - T-Man? Well, one of his good friends OD'ed on a mixture of substances and was rushed to the hospital. He stopped breathing but is okay and is now in treatment. He is the younger brother of my son's friend. Actually, T-Man had been hanging around this 16 year old more than the older brother. Poor kid. He was crying for help and they were trying to get a bed for him before this happened. Insurance company was not cooperating. Prior to this event they wouldn't pay for inpatient - only out patient first. Idiots!
On Monday my husband and I presented our program to the middle school parents/students (turnout was great and we received tons of compliments) and just before the presentation the Asst. Principal from the high school took me aside and told me that a high school student OD'ed. He didn't say who it was. I asked T-Man but he said he didn't know who it was (later he said he was trying to protect his privacy). I didn't find out until we were out of town and got a call from the mom of the boy. I've never met her but we've kept in touch talking on the phone for the last year or so. She is recovering from mouth cancer and was extremely ill from the treatment. In and out of the hospital, put in a nursing home for awhile. It was so hard on her boys because she is all they have. Their dad died from alcoholism. Sad. I told her that God works in mysterious ways because she is doing much better and can now help him. One of the reasons she called me is to learn more about the treatment center and more about Al Anon. She had a huge reputation of enabling her boys (and unfairly, I might add). Her house was known as the drug house because of rumors, and the fact the kids were there all the time. She worked so she couldn't be there and when she was ~ I know she fed them lots of food to keep them there and not elsewhere. They were probably using right under her nose. I don't believe she knew, as many people were saying. My oldest son? He called and wished me a Happy Mother's Day, which was nice. T-Man went out of town part of the time we were gone BUT I just found out that he managed to get himself to the place where he was supposed to finish his community service hours that he owed them (they signed off and the deal was he was to complete them later). We heard from someone else that he not only showed up but he did a great job! Ya never know......
