Mother Neff
My father-in-law came to town yesterday with his newest assistant. My husband still struggles mightily with distance between the formality of his father's ways and my barely house-broken ways. It is easier for all to simply keep us separated. What we have in common cannot be shared because of... Well... That is not mine to define. I just go with the flow
Still reeling from my meltdown over carrying the ex G.F.'s dog to the pound on Monday, yesterday found me packing my camera bag, my guitar and my service dog wannabe into my car and heading off on one of my wandering drives. Priscilla was thrown from the window of a moving car before she came to live with me. After Monday's ordeal, I do not think quite so harshly of the folks who did that to her, but she remains afraid of cars. Especially after watching the drama of ex G.F.'s dogs being abandoned before disappearing out the front door, etc. But... Shivers and all, in she went. Old dog has suffered agoraphobia since his blindness lead him straight off that 30 foot cliff, so I just left him to chill in the AC.
My absolute favorite thing about the US is its park system. Priscilla and I wandered into a tour of the parks between here and Mother Neff. She started relaxing after the first stop or three. Her training might have survived the impromptu pack politics. She didn't need the much reminding to handle the dropped leash stay I need from a photo hike companion.
Still I am grieving the unloved dogs of my world, but it was a healing day. My husband formally enjoyed the visit with his daddy, too.
Progress, not perfection.
