Mothers

Today I'm going to spend a few hours with my Mum.She is being moved from a low dependency hostel into a nursing home where the care will be more suited to her every failing health. She can no longer get about using her walker and needs to be pushed in a chair to get to meals. Althogh she spent a couple of weeks in the nursing home a few months ago I know that she will be dreading the move. All her life she has been very busy, bringing up five children , running arond after Dad, and working as a midwife and I know she finds her current situation very hard to bear. She is still fairly good mentally and in a way this makes it all so much more difficult.  Then on Friday my Darlin and I are off to see his Mum, diagnosed with pancreatic cancer last week. She is in a hospital which has an excellent name for oncology, but, her prognosis is poor. She also has had a busy life, four children, often raised by her alone while her husband was away for months at a time working. Both these women are good, lovely  and gracious women who have lived selfless lives. By coincidence their birthdays are only a few days apart. They will be 79 in July. Some would say that they have had a 'good innings' as indeed they have - it's the manner of their ends which seems so unfair.
