More snow news!

It started snowing yesterday. In the evening, I decided to shovel my driveway, thinking that the storm would stop soon.  It didn't. It snowed alot more throughout the night and by the time morning came, there was more snow but this time, I got my old snowblower going and decided to use that instead of shoveling.  It's a process to start that thing up so sometimes I grab a shovel instead.  I'm not complaining. I just have a minimalistic lifestyle, that's all.

The snowplow hit my mailbox awhile ago which knocked the door off but I am not going to fix it until spring.  Partially my fault because when I built it, it stuck out too much and was too close to the road, but the mailwoman never complained and I think she enjoyed the ease of access.

Winters are hard on the roads up here and there was an accident just a mile down the road from me. A car went off the road and into a small stream which took his life.  I rarely drive in the winter unless I have to and when I do, I try to multitask to get as many things done as possible. I usually go to the dump, the post office, and the grocery store. That saves time and gas.  My car has 209,000 miles on it and I want it to last a few more years if possible. If not, it's ok. I will buy something else....probably another subaru.

That's all the news. I hope y'all have a great day!

Hey Bob, always nice to read one of your journal postings. I dont know how you survive so deep in the North during the winter. It has been a very cold winter here in N.Carolina with many days way below zero, and breaking many records, but nothing like what you are experiencing. It is always a wonderous feeling to see Spring approach with all the lovliness and animal and bird activity that comes with it. I have a Fox family that moved into my tree filled back yard last year, and occasionally I do see them around dusk. A Hawk has built a nest in a very high and large tree near my garage, and I see 2 of them starting to gather twigs, etc. to get ready for the babes that will be coming. My favorite is a Possum (spelled wrong) that has lived in one of my trees for a few years. Her name is Polly. I see her on my back deck and front porch after dark just resting and taking in all the wonders of life. She has been with me for awhile, and when we had our dogs, they never, ever had a tick on them, even though they would wonder through the trees and woods. Polly eats hundreds of ticks a day, and also keeps away the copperheads that are in abundance here in Charlotte. The scientists even use her blood to make the venom to treat a snake bite. They are wonderous creatures and I have grown to love Polly very much. Hope your weather soon gets warmer and Spring arrives early. Stay warm. Katrina

This was the winter that wasn’t here in CT. We just had 4 inches and it’s already mostly slush.
Maybe March will surprise us with a big snow……

Hope that you got the driveway cleared but be careful not to strain yourself. Toronto got snow the end of February and today. Winter has been pretty good here. Cold and windy but not much snow. hugs and stay safe

@ katrina39 We don't have possums up here but I think they are cute little critters....I heard it has been quite cold down there. I hear it from relatives who lve in that state......we need polly up here. We have a very high number of ticks and lyme up here. Last year I caught lyme 4 different times and had to run to dr to get my scrpt of antibiotics.....We have more snow coming tomorrow so am going to bed early tonight and rest my back. It's great to see you again!

@ Billwfriend Bill, I haven't seen a moose here in years. Probably because they hunt them now.

@ finallyawakenow That's what I hear from others. It seems like all the worse weather is above you. March is coming in like a lion up here, more snow is expected for tomorrow.

Wow! Reading your journal entry gives me a picture of winter in full glory reality. I hear you on the snow shovel and snow blower. I agree with you about planning your necessary drives to keep off the road and yes, winter is really hard on the roads.

We have possums here, but not like we used to. Building of so many more homes is pushing the animals further out. This area is considered a bedroom community so developers are using that tactic to profit their pockets. They are great to keeping the amount of ticks down to virtually nothing.

Stay warm and keep the shovel handy.!

I am so sick of winter by the time that the Spring comes.... It won't be long now til Daylight Savings... Woot!... I am sorry to read someone lost their life just down the road from you.... Big hug.... xo

Now that I'm retired in Mexico it's really something for me to hear about the snow up there, bob. The wildest was hearing about snow in Los Angeles and seeing the Hollywood sign obscured by a flurry of snowflakes.

@ Atpeacemary...I didn't strain myself too bad....not any worse then usual anyway :)
@ billwfriend....I'm a tough old man, Bill. :)
@ Mid....That makes sense to me with the ticks because they prefer tall grass. Makes it easier to hop on board a body part of a human. Most of those are so small, you can't even see them, especially against a dark background. Pesky things they are.
@ Barry....UK benefits from the Gulf stream from what others have told me. Even though you are further north then we are, your weather is warmer then ours is.
@ SunCloudJD...Also, 18 more days until the first day of spring! You-Hoo!
@ mujicaptsd...Yes, I saw that about Hollywood. They said it's the first blizzard in 34 years! Glad I don't live there. :)

@ finallyawakenow Yes, I heard that too. Your state has escaped the worst of the snow storms this year. Here in Maine, March has traditionally been the worst month for snow. We have another one coming tomorrow. I'm ready for it!
