More nightmares
Last week, it was a tiger roaming through the house. I cannot ever remember dreaming of a tiger ... the only association I have to them being that my father and his wife collect them. So I am sort of interested in additional symbolism, although obviously things like "predator" and "beast" (no conscience or compassion) come to mind. There was something that resembled a bloody body in the corner of the bedroom ... I did not examine it too closely. Mostly, I had the idea that I had to stop this tiger so that it did not destroy others in the house. Don't remember much else.
There was another that featured 11 tornado watches. Back in 1998, during and after the "first divorce" (not completed), I had LOTS of tornado dreams .... I was always watching them approaching, going by or being around. I'd say tornadoes have to be one of the most powerful symbols ... of destruction ...I have not only grown up with, but have to respect, no matter how old I grow. Although I (we; family) have never suffered the direct brunt of a physical tornado, there have been times when tornadic storms have caused some damage or wreaked havoc. I remember coming home one night from the nursing home I worked at ... after moving all the residents into the hall because of a warning, then back to their rooms, before I left (and which seemed like a pointless exercise, truth be told) ... and having to detour because of massive trees and branches that fell across the road during the storm. Lights being out ... that time, for three days ... we had to go 40 or 50 miles to get some dry ice to keep the frozen foods from spoiling. Another time, bringing my daughters home from an outing and a tornado warning being announced as we were heading back the 15 miles or so left of the drive. I drove as fast as I could, not knowing where the storm cell was in relation to us or what direction it was traveling. When the rain hit, I was forced to drive 20 miles an hour. Visibility was horrible in the downpour and the car had to "chug" against the water on the road ... or face hydroplaning. One thing ex had said in past was that the storms that produced tornado warnings and actual cells featured a lot of lightning, he'd noticed. This was the case of this storm. I felt like it actually was hitting the car or was so close that it was affecting it. As I drove, I began to realize that it might be necessary to pull over and "get into a ditch" ... the thing they always say about taking cover in a tornado, when in a car. During that fearful drive, I realized that most likely, there was NO way I was going to be able to do that ... even if our lives depended on it. The lightning was too scary ... constant and close. When we finally got to the small town about 3 miles from the house, I saw a semi had pulled over in front of one of the churches (designated storm shelter) and the lights inside were on. Though we were no more than about 20 feet from the door (I had pulled over too), I could not bring myself to open the door and run for it. We waited a bit then I continued home ... we had to get out of the car. The worst (to me) was an open expanse .... man-made "lakes" on either side of the road and nothing to break the wind or hide the lightning ... yet anytime I was driving past trees, I half-expected lightning to bring one down.
So I hate tornadoes, in one way, because of the damage, because of the fear and the potentials they represent. Yet on the other hand, there is something wild, fierce and free about these storms. During daylight hours, I love watching the cloud formations and looking for rotation ... just seeing some of this actually come about.
I've never dreamed about mere watches before ... but 11 is an interesting number. And again, I am only remembering snippets of these dreams ... no outcomes. Maybe that is telling, to a degree. At any rate, I think there may be times when even destruction is "necessary" BUT I think it is most always better when it comes about through realizations and efforts, not wild and uncontrollable violence.
