Money Woes
I am so sick of barely scraping by. My income per month is about the same as my living expenses, and this doesn't include a social life or food. I have to pay $6,000 a year for school, plus buy all my books which are always overpriced because since we have to buy them they can charge whatever they want and get away with it. I'm so far in debt that I'm bloody drowning in it. Usually I am able to pay off my credit line (not govt student loans) in the summer months while I am working full time, but I haven't been able to find a full time job yet for this year. As it stands now I will be moving up to 25 hours a week instead of the 12 I currently work at the place I've been working at during the school year. This is not nearly enough to make my years living. My best friend from back home (I just moved to another province in Jan) and I were planning to go to Costa Rica together during my reading week next year because neither of us has ever been on a vacation and I'm 23 and she is 26 and we both really really need one. I thought that if any year I was going to be able to raise that kind of money it would be this year since I was working part time during the school year and figured that I would easily be able to both pay off my credit line and save $3,000 over the summer (by Feb. at least..) But, alas, it's not possible. I am so sick of having to scrape by and never getting to do the things I want to do and see the things I want to see while I'm still young. I'm going to be 25 or 26 by the time I graduate, and then I want to go to grad school. By the time I'm done that I'll be 27 or 28 and drowing so deep in debt that there is no way I'll be able to go on a vacation for at least a couple years while I get back on my feet financially. Then I'll be in my 30s, and I know that's still young, but it's not the same as the 20s. There are so many things that I want to do while I am still young and not tied down to a career or a family. There is only so much you can do once those obligations become your life, and I want to enjoy my youth so that I don't have to go straight into the life of a real "grown up" without ever having gone travelling, learned to skydive, or been to the rainforest. It's just so unfair that so many other people are born with silver spoons in their mouths, get to go to school and come out debt free, go on vacations every spring break, enjoy their youth, and start their lives 10 pegs ahead of me. I'm not trying to throw myself a pity party here but it just kills me that I have to struggle so goddamn much to get to the same place as someone else whose never had to struggle for anything in their life... and then start off so far in debt that by the time I pay that off I'm well into a mortgage and I'll never be debt free. I hate it! I've never been one to care about money. I don't want to care about money. But I am forced to care about money because it's the only way I can get through. I'll never get to where I want to be without going into debt, without working my ass off and wasting my entire youth slaving away between school and employment so that I can get the career I want and spend the rest of my life working my ass off to pay off my debt, pay off my mortgage, and put food in my fucking stomach.
