CM,
You are not whining, you are facing a crap reality and I feel exactly the same. I was diagnosed at 46, we had our future all mapped out, that can\'t happen the way we had planned. I am fortunate that our health care system is free but I still feel swindled.

Read your blog several days ago and have been thinking about it since. (In fact - just yesterday I used it in a discussion my hubby & I were having concerning what will happen should his Functional Testing not go well & his doctor decides he will NEVER be able to return to work after his shoulder recovery.)
Suppose you really don\'t need my comment, since you already know what decision I made when it came down to continuing work or taking the early retirement. Though I now realize it really wasn\'t a choice between work vs money. Now that I am away from work I can see that I simply could not have worked another year. In fact - I\'ll admit I probably worked 1-2 years further than I should have (can anybody say STUBBORN).
I look back on just what I thought life would be like at this phase in our lives. Silly, silly 20-30-40 year old me! Mostly I am more realistic & creative in making this time in our lives a time to come together as a couple - yet allowing myself to experience life by doing all those things I put off while being a wife & mother first. And, yes, I will admit sometimes I just allow myself to become downright pissed & frustrated.
I\'m learning a person needs money, but that I enjoy the frugal part of me A LOT! LOL Kinda fun to shop in new & unusual ways in search of the best bargain. We have been able to take advantage of mid-week travel rates and made some great memories this summer. And, my creative self has enjoyed coming up with ways to use items I already own to complete projects inside & out.
Bottom line: This is such a personal decision for you and your husband. I found prayer to be the very best help in my decision making - followed by writing in a journal. (I often sat down to write on a particular topic & found something else entirely just poured out of me - exposing feelings & thoughts I had neglected to acknowledge.) BIG DECISION.....you should feel confident in whatever you decide (maybe even excited???). Don\'t over think .... take more time to listen.
Good Luck, my friend. I know you to be such a smart woman, that I am confident that once you feel you have made a decision it will all fall into place!

Laura,
This response stopped my day, sometimes I read things on here that have such an effect that I have to just sit and absorb it. Both yourself and CM have an uncanny knack of being able to eloquently write exactly how I am feeling.
CM,
I discussed this topic with Ross too. It has played on my mind like an itch I can\'t scratch, the future is always so daunting that most of the time I don\'t face up to it, this has made me think though, thank you CM. As for your decision, you are a strong, intelligent, perceptive and intuitive woman I know you will make the right choice.
