Moms journey

I just want to share my mothers story thus far. She was diagnosed with Cirrhosis of the liver 3 years ago. This year was the hardest for us because she started to get into the late stages. the first year was hard because we didnt know what we were dealing with. We didnt take this too seriously and thought it was something that she would just get better. Also this case was unknown why she got it not alcohol related. We rushed probably a good 20 times to the er the first year because we did not understands the progression of cirrhosis. Second year was the first big scare that we thought she was not gonna be with us for a long time. One morning i went over to her room to check up on her and she was covered in blood. We once again didnt take it serious thought it was food poisoning. We didnt even take her to the hospital we took her to her doctor. From there she was rushed to the ER and ended up 2 weeks in the hospital. One week was in the ICU. After that i started asking a million questions. She ended up having esophageal varices. After finding out that she was really in the last stage of cirrhosis i started doing some extensive research. Once i really found out what we were dealing with i was shocked at how my mother might end up. The doctor had explained everything to her but she thought he was exaggerating a bit. After that episode i was involved in all aspects of my moms health problems.We were lucky enough to have had such a great gastrologist that he proposed to try to get her enrolled in the transplant program before she really got worse. once we met up witht he new team of doctors she was getting checked every 3 months and her gastrologist every month. It still wasnt easy but we were well guided along with this website. I found very helpful people and their stories. Everytime something new happened to my mom i would just get on here to see if this was happening to others luckily i had the fortune of people sharing their stories and when something seemed outrageous like her confusion and seeing it was all part of her cirrhosis it let me know not too freak out too much. The last month was the hardest her meld scores werent too high at 25 but she could barely walk, couldnt swallow too much was on water restriction and belly pain along with a lot of water retention and kidney failure. We were lucky that 2 months ago she was bumped up the list because they thought she was prime to survive the operation and today August 9th she received her new liver. I am so greatful also that this website helped me a lot but also my friends mom who is going through the same thing and im so happy to have such support from everyone i meet. Now we go into a new path and hopefully the next month she will not reject the liver and start doing simple joys.

Problems that she faced were: confusion,asophageal varaces,encephalopathy,kidney failure due to water pills/dehydration,weakness, couldnt swallow, slept almost all day.
Meds:
nadadol,mag oxide, folic acid, xifaxin, gabapentin, citalopram, furosemied, aldactone along with a multi vitamin and on top of that vitamin D and C seperate. Also low protein diet and no salt. They say keep it to 3 grams but we just cut it out completely
