Mixed Feelings
Well school is over...I'm supposed to go to pick up Sarah's yearbook this week at the office now that the hallways are clear of students. They had advised me to wait until this week so that it would be quieter in the office... good advice. I don't think I could face any of S. friends right now. Still feeling too tender and crying easily over grad stuff. There's also a DVD and a grad mug ready for Sarah waiting for me to pick up from a lady's house. She was in charge of a parent group that put together stuff to hand out to the grads at commencement. One of the things is a DVD of the red carpet walk on grad day when they were all dressed up and getting out of their limos. Sarah's counselor let this lady know about Sarah and she put a set of this stuff aside for Sarah since she wouldn't be there to accept it herself at commencement. I think this was very thoughtful of them to think of her and include her. Sarah and I talked about this last night. She asked me to pick this stuff up without her knowing and just put it away for now. She'll ask me to see it when she's ready. She's just not ready to see it for now. Way too painful. On a brighter note......our flowers are either blooming or getting buds....we're going to have a great balcony garden this year! Andrew is so excited the rosebush has new buds! I'm so glad he's into this this year! He's gotten me into it and his excitement is contagious and adding a bright spot in an otherwise depressing year. Way to go Andrew!

Yeah about your garden! At least you can look out at their beauty when you\'re feeling down.
About Sarah... I\'m a bit confused about what\'s going on. I guess I\'ve been out of the loop for too long and missed all this. Has she not been at school recently? I didn\'t realize she wasn\'t going... But from how serious she has been, I guess I should\'ve known... What exactly happened with graduation? Has she technically graduated but didn\'t walk? If not, what now?! Has she entered the hospital yet? I don\'t see a note indicating that she has... And what\'s the status on that? I\'ve been gone only a couple of weeks and I feel like I\'ve missed everything!
What ever is going on, you\'ve clearly been having a really horrible past couple of weeks. I\'m sorry I haven\'t been here for you. I\'ll try to check in with you. Take care of yourself and your kids. They\'re so lucky to have you!
To answer some of your ?\'s-- Sarah hasn\'t been in school since last Sept. so hasn\'t earned any credits this year. She has all her credits for Gr.10 & 11 but none for 12 because of this yr. She\'ll have to earn those later (she could go back to school-unlikely, night school-maybe, online courses-possibly, etc.)She now can earn an Adult Diploma which requires less credits so will be easier. One blessing at least.
She hasn\'t entered the hospital yet...still waiting on the ward to fully open...but we did have our 2nd aptmt...it went fairly well. We had a good discussion about goals and we all agreed on what\'s needed medically which made Sarah and I both feel better.
No word on when anything else will happen. This feels like a snail\'s pace and is irritating. I want to get on with things already. Sarah has lost enough time to this, let\'s get going!
Glad to have you back!
Thanks for the clarification. I\'m sorry she\'s missed out so much. Will her school not allow her to continue to attend 12th grade next year if she\'s ready (unlikely!)? How frustrating for both of you. At least you know she can take that step at her own pace now.
As for the speed... This does seem to be taking an extraordinary amount of time. I\'d expected to hear more results by now. Do you know what the hold-up is? Is it just Sarah\'s psych status, as in her willingness to accept the terms presented at the first appointment? (Did that even make grammatical sense?!) She\'s so young... She\'s losing precious years. I can\'t imagine a long delay being healthy for her future well-being. Good luck to both of you. I hope they get their butts in motion!
The school will allow her to go back if she wants to it\'s more a matter of whether she can handle it and that it\'s too painful for her to be there without her friends....her class has moved on without her so being there would be a constant reminder of what she lost this year....too bad because the structure and social aspects would be good for her.....but at this rate I doubt she\'ll be ready to handle the load by Sept anyway so a self-paced approach is probably best.
The Dr. said last time that they want to do as much as possible as an out-patient to lessen her stay in the hospital (ie.lower or take her off of some meds while still at home). I agree with getting started and doing what I can but then she said this could take up to 6 MONTHS!
Also I\'m not crazy about handling this at home...not sure what to expect......I\'ll write more in a journal later.
6 mos?! ARGH! I can\'t imagine what\'s going to happen... You haven\'t seen her off meds for so long...On the other hand, I guess it\'s better than having her in the hospital for those 6 mos, huh? I hope you all can handle this ok. Remember, we\'re all here for you and in your cheering section.
About school... I get it now. Sorry for the slow comprehension. I\'m sure it\'ll work out . For now, her health is much more important.
