Missing
My pet phesant was showing up every morning for breakfast. Never missed a day unless we had a bad storm with alot of wind. I haven't seen him in a week but the snow is melting, the robins are coming back, and there is alot of bare ground. This is spring which makes me think, he is looking for a mate. I heard his mating call which woke me up one morning. It was the loudest squak I ever heard. I looked out the kitchen window and he was flapping his wings as well as squaking. I thought he was just hungry but I looked it up and that is the mating call of the ring necked pheasant! When I brought him his breakfast of mixed seeds, he began cooing at me and I had to tell him, I'm not available. I hope he wasn't too disappointed.
The good news is, my duck pairs returned again this year. That makes 3 years in a row that I have had a pair of ducks nesting in the bog behind my house. The ice is not completely melted so I don't know how they will manage that. I will try to get photos of them, if I can.
I left the robins nest in my shed so am curious to see if they return.
The deer had a fairly easy winter and have seen lots of them. There are several people who are feeding, I know of who are feeding them. I left apples out for them on a few occasions but the red squirrels got them before the deer did.
Hope you all have an enjoyable spring. No bugs this time of year so I will be outside most of the time.

Any signs of your pheasant friend? I live in a town with many fields and pasture and see wild turkey there three seasons. Not a one all winter as they’re deep in the forest.
The deer have been flocking to the outer gardens to eat the winter rye and I felt bad tilling it in.

@finallyawakenow No pheasant but lots of birds who are eating the seeds he left behind, including a beautiful bright red Cardinel which is rare around here. My neighbor has 2 pairs visiting her feeders but I just have one, but I am happy to see him up close. I can just look outside my kitchen window and he is 6 feet away. My neighbor gets most of the wildlife around here because she's been feeding them for years. What are you planting this year?
I’m planting everything Bob. Last year I only had to go to the store once or twice a month and with my canning and freezing that continued through the winter. Except greens which kills me to buy. I finally put a feeder out at the first snow and have six male cardinals. I hung from an old pear tree and can see them from the living room.
Our pheasant never returned. We are afraid something or someone got him. I hope we have another one this spring. Our robin's are back and have returned to their nests in the tree beside the deck. They have nested there for quite a few years.
Like you we have lots of deer. That is good and bad. Love watching them in the yard but they are hard on my flowers. Last year ate my hostas!!

@ Finallyawakwned ....Do you use organic seeds, if so, where do you buy them? Isn't it alot of work to can all that stuff? I use to help my MIL do that years ago. It was not one of my favorite ways to spend the day..
