"Misfortunes come not singly"

Dont come on DS much any more.  Backed off after the Mass Hissy Fit.  Then DS doesnt send me discussion updates to draw me in - so just stay in touch with friends.  So for any interested out of touch (or otherwise) friends here is a brief update.
I continue to work at getting weight down.  Goal is 63kg but it really is to have my BMI normal.  At 63kg should be.  Partly motivated as mtx seems to be failing.  Have upped it myself and upped the prednisone to 5mg from 2.5mg. Will see.  Weather fronts always set me off and we have had a few.  Plus stress.
Stress levels high. Had a week from hell where heard my eldest daughter only 27 has Scleroderma.  A combination of husband and my genes.  He has a cousin who has it  but got it at 60. Maybe the addition of my and grandfather's RA has thrown this earlier for daughter.  She has always had issues.  Colicky baby, migraines from aged 5 until replaced with Raynaud's at puberty.  Raynauds now into the severe form which alerted them to Scleroderma. Positive for her is that has loving husband and home and work.  But they did want children which not really a good idea now.
Couple of days after that came news that husband taken to hospital by ambulance. He had gone to dr for general check on his cholesterol drug regime and mentioned some pain (No, he Hadnt Told Me) and an ECG not what it should be and BP low. Got text from him at hospital.  It ended well in that given all clear after a night and day in hospital of checks but no explanation. Hopefully an allergic reaction???  Only funny side of this is that he had parked truck on road and was anxious for me to rescue it before it got towed.  I had to leave my car (more sensibly parked) and drive home and then try to get back.  All neighbours and friends not at work out. So walked to bus stop and tried hitch hiking.  Dangerous geriatric me!! No one stopped until friend from Scrabble recognised me. (Was hoping someone would recognise me as being local as often walking in area - live reasonably close to town but not close when one in a hurry!!).
Wondered what my third would be that week and then youngest daughter split up with boyfriend of nearly a year... Well safe now I thought.  However another week and email from son in London who has some sort of parasitic skin infection which regular hospital couldnt identify so referred to Hospital of Tropical Diseases.. Cant imagine what it can be as apart from Kuala Lumpa airport (where stranded a while after plane to UK developed fault on take off and returned and they all changed planes...) hasnt been anywhere tropical.  Maybe Greece qualifies with climate change??? We dont have anything down here as he has described to me.
Just had elections.  Outcome pretty much as expected and NZ about to be sold off but hoping enough flies in the ointment to stop this. I am pretty pessimistic about the world in general anyway after a conference I attended about world ills from economy to climate so it probably doesnt matter who governs anywhere anyway.. Corporates (business and banking) always have more power than governments anyway and dictate to them no matter what we mere mortals think we are voting for...
Big sigh - we are all in it together and I know many people on DS RA site a lot worse off than I. After all it is the immediate that most grabs our attention when it comes to health!
At least summer is coming...uncleaned pool drew attention of a duck.  She brought friend....Pool now clean but ducks love it just as much... Cat loves ducks... Photo will be downloaded if possible.

Hi Camba,
Nice to hear about you. Sorry about all the stress. I too have been only an occasional visitor since all that dramaI don\'t even really know what it was all about. LOL My updates have resumed however so I have been back a few times. Been feeling pretty well so not in terrible need of support right at the moment, but winter is on the way and so I\'m sure are the more achey body parts. So sorry to hear about your daughter I hope she is able to control her illness.
Love the pics. Nothing like temptation knocking on your cat\'s door. Hope you can enjoy the pool with summer heading your way, swimming may help with your weight goals. You look terrific! Keep up the good work.
Hugs,
Jan

Wow! So sorry to hear about the family trials, esp. the scleroderma. I knew someone in England who had a severe tropical disease and he never left the country. They might want to think that one through. Glad hubby is better.

So did you get the hitchhiking idea from my adventure last summer? Of course, I hitched with my bike with the flat tire, which made me look very harmless. All those teen years practicing probably helped.

Yes, DS is a real mess right now. But some good friends here, just stay off the main boards. Glad we met before all the nonsense went down, continues to go down. My son in oil town is gleeful about Canada pulling out of Kyoto. I\'m getting really blas, wondering if there is any hope these days. Just keep our heads down, and pray the meds keep coming, I guess. God bless.

I forgot to mention, I am most impressed with the weight goal. I still have 10 to go from last year\'s prednisone fiasco. Probably it will have to wait till after Christmas now.
