Mercy

Warm thanks to everyone who has sent their love to my mother and I. After eight harrowing weeks a surgeon at one of our top hospitals cleared her esophagus of a major reflux and found nothing sinister, not even the ulcer the surgeon who failed to look beyond the blockage pronounced there to be.

It has been a gruelling and very disturbing time which culminated in her not being able to take anything and in her bringing up saliva and phelgm. We were all beside ourselves and were all dreading having to break terrible news to her. As you can imagine, the relief has been extraordinary. I feel a bit like my emotions have been stretched and it is hard to spring back to normal, especially since Mum seems so frail.

There is no doubt that this ordeal has sped up a decline and Mum was not looking very well today. We are hoping that she will go to a rehabilitation unit for at least a week and I am going to press to have her get respite care and move towards some more permananent arrangement.

I confess I am completely wrung out after all of this, especially since a long term solution is still not clear. I feel a bit powerless but I am making the most of every opportunity and the fact that she is in hospital and not fit enough to be sent home.

Hopefully over the next few weeks something will be sorted.

Thanks again for all your well wishes.

l,m glad that there was nothing sinister found Heather, but if she is still frail, then it sounds as if she needs building up a bit,so maybe if she goes into rehabilitation for a week, this will help her

That is good news Heather! Maybe some rest and good nutrition and she will feel much better. You should get some rest too!

Things will work out and your mom will get the care necessary. I understand your concern but God will take care of you and your mom. You have been through enough and he needs to cut you some slack as what my daughter always tell me. Lots hugs. Linda

I am so glad...big sigh of relief! I hope she can qualify for long term care.

I was just phoned by my mom\'s worker and she is presenting my mom\'s case to the long term care panel today. It is very important that she qualifies as I am not sure what we will do if she does not. So, today I am sitting on pins and needles

Big big hug.

At last, some reprieve from the dreadful stress. Hopefully you will see some improvement soon and, at the very least, less suffering.
Take care of yourself/

What wonderful news. Now all they have to do is gett her some high nutrition and get her back on her feet. Hopefully there will not be a reaccurance of the esophageal stricture and she can bounce back. You need to take a deep breath and give yourself a break. You have had so much weight on your shoulders lately. Find yourwself a little quiet time and enjoy it and may be a glass of wine. Hugs and good wishes for you both Jane

It is so hard to be in a crisis with another family member when you are still in grieving; stress on top of stress! So glad it came out O.K. and hope she gets better. Take care of you too!
