Mending the Broken Relationships...

Last night I had the pleasure of spending some much needed and missed time catching up with my biological brother and two of my best friends, one since I was 12 and the other since Freshman year of college.  Each of the gentlemen have played a significant role in my development as an adult and my understanding of life in general, and it became evident to me how much I missed them and had neglected our relationships due to my gambling addiction.
When I first decided to stop gambling, I had an overwhelming amount of support from my family, friends, and even people who were casual acquaintances.  To know that even though I had been absent from their presence, I was never absent from their hearts and minds, was an amazing yet unexpected feeling.  They still loved me as though nothing had changed.  I think the first relationship I had to fix was the one I have with myself.  It seemed that no one was more disappointed in me than myself.
I'm writing this entry to let you know that once you are honest with yourself and others, they and you are likely to not be as harsh of critics as you probably expect.  I know the "gambling fog" that was caused by months, or years of destructive behavior leads you to believe otherwise, but trust me, it's a proven fact.  I know this because it is not only my story, but also that of many others I have heard and read.
Stay positive, stay motivated, keep it honest, and make today magnificent!
