MEMORIAL DAY

Memorial Day has been a special day for me for many years.  Years ago, my folks used to take me to the Ramsey cemetery when I was about 4 years old.  Now, they are buried there and I have been going there every memorial day for 34 years.
Today, I rode my Harley there, placed the hanging basket of flowers on my parent's grave and attended the American Legion services there.  The speaker was the Pastor who preached my mother and my son's funeral.  He did a fine job as always.
After the service was over, I began talking to a lady who had been setting by me on one of the benches and she asked who I was and where I was from.  I told her and I also told her about my grand-father fighting in the Civil War with U.S. Grant, of my brother who fought in Sicily and Italy in WWII and my nephew, who was a Marine in Vietnam.  I also shared with her how I led my friend to the Lord, 3 weeks before he died.  She asked me to talk to her husband.  He is the manager of the local Christian radio station.  She introduced me to him and he wants to do an interview with me on the air.  I also met some other people who knew my dad and my sister.  We visited for quite some time.  I also met another Pastor's wife who would like for me to meet her husband as well.
Many of the honor guard of the American Legion, came up and talked to me after the service ended.  They remembered me from years ago and one of them said he could not remember when I wasn't at the Memorial Services there.  He said every year, I see you here.
I do this for my folks, my family, and for all those who have served in the armed forces of this country we call America.  I am proud to be an American.  My message yesterday to my congregation was "For Your tomorrows, we gave our today".
