"Girl in Hyacinth Blue," by Susan Vreeland
It reminds me of the book the travelling pants, except this is a travelling painting and is basically a collection of short stories about the dramas in the lives of the different owners of the painting. Interesting concept. It begins in present-day Phili and ends in the 1600's when it was first painted in Holland. Each chapter scrolls backward depicting the drama in the life of each of its owners. I actually read this one from the middle, and then went in both directions to keep it interesting. but the book is good. it made the new york times best sellers list. no idea why though. not a lot of wisdom in there but there is a lot of history.
The artist is Johan Vermeer, one of the "greatest Dutch painters of all time". Who is known for his use of the color blue (ultra marine). Its a ficticious painting of his daughter Beatrix (he had eleven kids).
His wife gave birth to 15 children, four of whom were unnamed because they were buried before being baptized, (but were registered as "child of Johan Vermeer"). The names of 10 of Vermeer's children are known from wills written by relatives: Maertge, Elisabeth, Cornelia, Aleydis, Beatrix, Johannes, Gertruyd, Franciscus, Catharina, and Ignatius.
then started the Penderwick series which won book awards, but i've started this one before and i don't get anything out of it. I used to write stuff like that myself when i was in fourth grade (but shorter). so, so far its a no-go for me and i'll probably get rid of them. i do the same thing if i attempt a danielle steele novel, its so trite that i fall right to sleep, so i've never been a fan and never buy her books.
so i switched to an amber brown book (which i LOVE) by Paula Danziger, who i am a fan of. hilarious. she is verrrrry creative. can't believe she is dead ten years already, she wasn't that old when she died. shocking, when that happens. she has so much to offer and she is dead and then these assholes who are criminals are still alive and alive at super old ages . grrrr.
well, i'm bored. going down to the marina with a for a bit. went shopping for animal supplies. put up the drapes on the other windows, it makes it dark, but it does cool things off. its too hot and too much wasted energy with the sun coming in. the pants i had hemmed for work are shorter each time i wash them. strange because i washed them before having them hemmed and thought it would be enough. its not. so i guess these will be for summer only. lol. would really like to go to the pool and swim laps. wonder if i'm up to that, or does iron affect that too?
