MEET TAIWAN

We spent a couple of hours viewing the exhibits, but this remarkable collection, so very well presented deserves more like a full day. Travelling around Taiwan this taste of Europe and the rest of the world has got to be in the top ten attractions. Last stop today is Cijin Island, a long narrow island situated almost within a stone’s throw of the mainland with a population of about 30,000. It is connected by a tunnel at one end, while a ferry services the other end. We poke our nose along various narrow streets in the car, appears to us that it is quite poor and a bit of a backwater compared with at least some parts of Kaohsiung City.
It's well worth your time and money to visit the top of Taipei 101. The shopping mall in the bottom is as high end as one would expect, and the food court has some excellent and not overly expensive food. December, January, and 台東必買伴手禮 February are the best time for me to visit. I don't mind cool but hot and humid and wandering about isn't great. You'll want to prepare a jacket if you're visiting the country in between July and August, which is mid-winter.

Didn't expect for such short leg to be so expensive. Just be very careful when riding, as people tend to just take any possible gap and I've definitely had a few near misses. On that note, when hiring scooters, is it compulsory to have an international drivers permit?
Good place to walk around if you like art sculptures. Probably gone for this trip; don't think Taiwan will let Chinese tourist in for the interim... Ruifeng is where my I go every time I visit Taiwan with my wife . Mmm don't think it was anything fancy though (found the booking, i had paid around $56 aud at the time, it was Kindness Hotel – Xiong zhong branch, there are other branches around Kaohsiung).
But there's no disneyland or universal studios if that is what you were thinking. Tamshui/Danshuei is a pretty easy day trip using the MRT from Taipei and I recommend a walk along the riverfront as well as a visit to the restaurants on Old Street — the food is cooked using fresh ingredients. There are also a couple of old forts that are worth visiting as tourist attractions. You could also take a boat ride to get a different perspective of the city from the riverfront to Fisherman's Wharf. I believe the boat operators take the easy card but when I was there they preferred if you bought a ticket.

Established in 1999, the Guanshan Waterfront Park covers a wide area of 34 hectares and was previously a dumping ground. A third of the park is covered by water, which mainly originates from the subterranean river. The remaining two-thirds consists of an ecological island, pavilions, nest boxes and other attractive features. There are many water activities for the whole family, including swimming, water slides and much more. After dinner take a walk, find a pharmacy to buy throat medicine for one of Lilly’s friends in Sydney.
This afternoon, visit Danshui - a laidback waterfront town on the northern part of Taipei city. One of the main settlements for the Spanish in the 1600s, and settled by the Japanese during World War II, this is a town filled with history and unique 1900s architecture and infrastructure. Enjoy lunch today at Danshui Old Street, where you can feast on many famous Taiwanese snacks. In the evening, explore the bustling night life of Taipei. Have a traditional Taiwanese Local Dinner before visiting the oldest temple in Taiwan - Longshan Temple.

We have our heart beats taken and our tongues examined by the pharmacologist, a very pleasant young doctor. He reckons Lilly eats too much, gets upset too easily and carries her little troubles too long. I am more equable but need to eat less meat and drink less, I think he possibly said, “milk”.
It's possible but i'd rather spend at least a night in Jiufen so you are not so rushed. Lots of night markets around the several universities in Taipei – lots of nice places to visit. Hard for me to say as I do speak, read and write Mandarin so it's been easy for me. However I noticed many places in Taipei have English in the menu. Or you can point at what other people are having if you see something you fancy. About the night market in Taiwan, I suggest that try little bit at the beginning, and see whether you can resisit or not, there are various kind of food in any night market in Taiwan.

I'm currently thinking about one week in Taipei (e.g. 4 days at the beginning of the trip, and 3 days at the end) and maybe 4 – 5 days in Hualien. We will be there for 4 weeks, which is enough time to go from north to south and back again. But we like to take our time with each place, and it looks like there is a lot to see just in the north and the central areas of Taiwan.
Traveller-Inn Tiehua Light Spot Hotel offers a comfortable setting while in Taitung City. It provides free Wi-Fi, a tour desk and luggage storage. Kaishen Sinsu Hotel provides comfortable 3.5-star accommodation in Taitung City.

Its located close to the taipei Main station, so very easy access to go anywhere... Isn't The Grand Hotel right around the corner from The American Club Taipei? I would've thought there would be a whole heap of westerners in the area! Especially because of the massive park just across the road/river... I know I had a couple of nights round there sneakily drinking with friends...
I think if that's the case, will stay near the main station, as there will be good train connection between the HSR station and main station, which should be easier with suitcases. It is about $35 aussie and you get unlimited hotpot for 2 hours. Seafood, meat from Australia, Japan and New Zealand. I didn't have time to visit Tainan but i did visit Kaohsiung for a short time.
China can count itself very lucky that the red guards and their ilk did not get their hands on the priceless, magnificent and ancient artifacts and exhibits that we viewed today. There were three floors and we could have spent a day on each floor instead of two hours on the lot. Couple of hiccups travelling south from Okinawa via Naha Airport to Taipeh. The first occurred when checking in for the flight on China Airlines they discovered that Lilly’s Taiwanese visa stated her name as TL and not LT as per her passport.
