medical treatment continues!!

Update for all my friends. Last Journal I wrote I my husband completely gave up and was refusing any more treatment.  That has changed.  We had a knock down drag out fight about it.  I simply told him I’m not staying around to watch him die without him fighting.

I had to fight for his life while in the hospital, making the trips every day and rearranging my entire life for him. Now he wants to comment legal suicide and I wasn’t going to stand by to watch.  I told him I’d leave, let him do his thing and after he died, I’d be back to reclaim everything.  He decided to continue treatment.

Oct. 15th will be one year since he was diagnosed with stage 4 lymphoma.  Yes the cancer is growing because he can’t have “full-chemo” treatments only the rituxan.  There have been a lot of road blocks too, the ulcer where he lost 40% of his blood, the pneumonia that put in the hospital for 83 days and him having to learn to eat, talk, breathe and walk.

when I told my family he was giving up, they celebrated. He hasn’t been the kindest person and they were happy I’d be free of the work, abuse, and problems he causes.  They were surprised I was so upset.  Only caregivers can understand the extra burden of persons health going down.  Since coming home from the hospital, my husband has gotten better not worse like some of your stories I’ve read about.  I feel guilty mine is getting better where your loved one’s health is going down hill.  He no longer has to have depends diapers, he can get himself his own drinks (I used to put a cooler with bottled water next to his chair), he can now microwave his own lunch, he can give himself is diabetes shots, he can dress himself now, bath time has gone from 2 hour event to 20 minutes and so on.  There has been a lot of improvements and even as difficult he is to live with; I’m not ready to watch a slow death.

hugs and good thoughts and thanking everyone for their prayers.
Arlene

Dear Arlene, i sometimes have to tell my son straight if he\'s being particularly difficult. I don\'t like doing it but i think he needs to know! Well done you for fighting. I\'m really pleased he is beginning to improve. Perhaps some of the pressure will be off you.
Take care xx
