Med school on the fast track: A 3-year degree

Oh, dear. I truly don't know whether to think this is a good idea, an o.k. idea or an awful idea!
I've certainly met my share of idiot doctors who went through the four year course and still hadn't learned anything except how to sneer at patients (especial women) who dared to ask a question. (Yeah, that's a personal bias!)
I've heard of surgeons (even knew one, briefly) who operated on a patient after attending an all night poker session with friends and put away more than his share of alcohol. Some check their email in the OR. And they had even more years of schooling than a PCP.
Perhaps cutting the four year curriculum to 3 years might allow the new doctors to retain just a smidgen of humanity and their ability to think.
I just don't know. But I do know that it fits right in with shortened drug trials. And that I know just ain't right!
