Mercy
Warm thanks to everyone who has sent their love to my mother and I. After eight harrowing weeks a surgeon at one of our top hospitals cleared her esophagus of a major reflux and found nothing sinister, not even the ulcer the surgeon who failed to look beyond the blockage pronounced there to be.
It has been a gruelling and very disturbing time which culminated in her not being able to take anything and in her bringing up saliva and phelgm. We were all beside ourselves and were all dreading having to break terrible news to her. As you can imagine, the relief has been extraordinary. I feel a bit like my emotions have been stretched and it is hard to spring back to normal, especially since Mum seems so frail.
There is no doubt that this ordeal has sped up a decline and Mum was not looking very well today. We are hoping that she will go to a rehabilitation unit for at least a week and I am going to press to have her get respite care and move towards some more permananent arrangement.
I confess I am completely wrung out after all of this, especially since a long term solution is still not clear. I feel a bit powerless but I am making the most of every opportunity and the fact that she is in hospital and not fit enough to be sent home.
Hopefully over the next few weeks something will be sorted.
Thanks again for all your well wishes.
